Just nowish, a little Windows icon appeared on my right bottom corner.
If you click it, it's about reserving it, and downloading it once it's available.

If you accept, will it download it automatically when it's released?

That's what I recently read in some tech news, yes...

+1
you need 16 GB for 32-bit or 20 GB for 64-bit version.
29 July users will restart their machines and whole magic should happen automatically.

that's the theory :)

Just curious. What if I have like <500Gb of data on my SSD? Going to be deleted after re/installation or?

It's an upgrade, so while there will be a fair amount of new content, I'm sure other content will be replaced.

Windows upgrades do not delete your data. They upgrade the operating system on your computer.

Just like upgrading iOS or Android on your cell phone (via OTA) doesn't delete your pictures on the phone.

Yeah that's my main problem. I want to choose when to install it.

You can choose when to install it. It clearly states this on the first screen.

Well can I install it after 2 years?

It doesn't give specifics. However you don't have to install it there and then which will be the issue for most people. It has always been advertised as a limited time offer though so I wouldn't rely on it being installable after the promotion ends.

No the offer is for one year after release only.

You can try to install second copy of windows 7 on other partition, and sign up for it.
There is a chance you will end up with both working Win7 and Win10. Or not.

Any way to remove it yet?

Not sure if this is safe, but I got rid of it by uninstalling the Windows Update that put it there (KB3035583). I'm definitely not tolerating that little icon in my notification area.

You can hide that notification. There's no need to uninstall.

I did the same as Zlia, it got rid of the icon notification then I turned off automatic updates so it doesn't come back

You can end process "GWX.exe" to brutally remove it.
To make it come back, search for "GWX" on the disk that contains your system and launch the application.

No icon usually means you're using a pirated version of 7.

nope, I have it pirated and I got icon, ima upgrade :v

Are you sure it's a pirated copy? Microsoft specifically stated they won't be giving free upgrades to pirated versions.

I believe they said they would give the same upgrade to pirated copies, but that doing so would not make them legal versions. They would remain non-genuine copies.

Ah I believe it works differently for shared copies then. At work none of our Windows 7 machines have the options to upgrade and I was starting to think they might have been pirated versions lol.

Those are probably enterprise licenses, so your company will have Windows 10 Enterprise licenses to use instead of a user triggered upgrade, which your IT department would definitely not want happening.

i tested too and its not that good, dunno if u notice that some games are 100% muted, and many drivers are not 100% compatible with win10.

I didnt play any games on win 10 though since I didn't install it on my gaming machine. Had no driver issues so far. We'll see it is just the preview.
Also as a software developer playing around with directx I will need win 10 in order to get myself familiar with dx12

I've not run into that yet, though I've only tried a few games so far. What did you get those issues with?

Had the insider preview running on a frankencomputer till the power supply got mad at me, took the data with it and the recovery section was not fully ready on that build. Liked it mostly when I had it running, but still havent gotten a notification

I got that update icon too. I didn't reserve it. I don't know if I want the update. I'm thinking mostly on my steam, because most of the games don't run on windows 10. Of course I may be mistaken, since I don't understand much about computers.
What do you think? Is the update gonna be bad for playing steam games?
