"Capcom is introducing "sponsored content" to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition on December 11th to promote its purchasable bundles, costumes and the Pro Tour. You'll see them on costumes, in certain stages and on pre-fight loading screens. This isn't concerning by itself (many real sports have ads, after all), but Capcom goes out of its way to discourage you from turning the ads off.

While you can switch off ads, you'll lose extra Fight Money and access to sponsored material like costumes. In essence, you'll have to either live with the ads or accept that you won't unlock as much content as your ad-friendly peers."

It could be worse. Consider the (very possible) EA scenario: FIFA 2020 will have microtransactions to get actual real-life sponsor advertising along the edge of the football field. And unlocking sponsors accelerates in-game progression/unlocks the abilitiy to buy upgrades for teams sponsored by those companies.

But seriously, product placement & sponsorships have been creeping into games for a long time now, and so far haven't caused any real issues.
it did give us at least one cool game even. Cool Spot was one of the better platformers of the early-mid '90s in addition to being a giant ad.

Thankfully i don't really care much about SFV at all. Though i would still appreciate an option to remove the promotional content off their costumes. I think that is where i would draw the line, if i actually still played the game.
It might be especially sad to all those who put a ton of work into the costume and character design, only to have them destroyed by some promotional crap.

They are optional. You have to turn the ads on.

I imagine completely? i don't mind getting something in return for watching them on loading screens, or on menus for that matter. Just whatever is gameplay i wouldn't want them, in any game. So, to explain myself, i wouldn't mind having them on, if they didn't went as far as to add them to the fighters clothes

There is an "Ad" costume. You can choose not to select it. There is also an ad at the match loading screen and an ad on the screens of the Capcom Pro Tour stages. You can choose which ones to turn on and off. I'm not sure if you can select the Pro Tour stages and not get ads though.

Once again, gamers are to blame. You complain and complain YET you still buy the game. You never learn, they keep pushing the limits.... STOP BUYING THE GUYS YOU ARE PROTESTING!

Well yeah, just like Tsuke said: vote with your wallet. The problem is that they implement these type of things afterwards. It´s optional they say but somehow that in game gratification changed. I am guessing that fight money was already there with no ads but now the balance inclines for the ones that activate this option.

Something similar happened with Killing Floor 2. People bought the game, the developers were accepting advices from the player base and suddenly, while still in early access TWI implements "Zedconomy" which is a bunch of cosmetics made and approved by the "community". The difference is that you can´t turn off those cosmetics in KF2 afaik. I´m still waiting for that option implemented by TWI or by some Mod. Sadly for me, most people are ok with them. And It´s the same rhetoric: "It´s just cosmetics, It´s doesn´t affect gameplay".

This game is nearly 3 years old. Capcom just decided they needed another way to earn more money from their customers.

I have a question for those who regularly play the game. The fight currency earned before the change, compared to after the change, what difference is there? I understand adverts are enabled by default, so are they earning the previous amount while those refusing adverts get even less than they already did, or did they increase currency income for those willing to accept adverts?

As long as the ads don't affect my gameplay, I really don't care. Every game can fill up every loading screen with a full page of ads, that's fine with me. I'm never going to click on them, and as long as they're only on loading screens, they might as well be invisible. I'm not paying any conscious attention to loading screens.

Not that big of a deal. And not even much of a "bad precedent" or "slippery slope."
