My neighborhood was just shook by a series of more than 100 explosions about 30 minutes ago. Me and my wife had been sitting in our room, in a state of shock, thinking of what hell has just unleashed... Just yesterday we had the news of Brussels and now this... what fresh hell is this? Among all the explosions, there were distant screams of women and children as well. From my window I could see a tint of red reflecting on the neighboring rooftops. After being in shock for a good 10 minutes, I finally pulled myself together and called our security guard about what the hell was happening. His replied: "It's firework... You should come out and see, they are celebrating national day at the park". Left me speechless. Other people were in shock as well, until they too realized that it's just fireworks...

Fuc* all the insensitive people who held such an event at a time like this without publicizing it. I tell you all, the first 20 minutes of this new day have been the worst of my life. We feared the very worst, given the VERY VOLATILE situation of my country; what just happened here right now could not have been any more insensitive.

That sounds... Terrible. Why didn't they tell everyone about it? Or call it off due to the recent events?

I travel in front of that park on daily basis. I never saw a single banner publicizing such an event!

Which country? You don't have it set on your profile. My guess would be Tunisia, but "national day" can be a broad term.

Ah, your independence day. Makes sense.
Also the comment about the situation. Especially with sitting on some nuclear bombs and all. :S

There have been 2 suicide bombings in my neighborhood in recent years... So whenever you hear an unexpected boom, you dont normally think about celebrations.

Well -to be fair- if it is a national celebration day everyone living in the country for more than 2 years should know about it.

We do not celebrate with such fireworks. NEVER and I really mean NEVER. This is the first time I heard such explosions. This was uncalled for, and it was really poorly executed.

Hm strange that they started it now. In germany we have lots of refugees at the moment but almost everyone celebrated new years eve with fireworks here. I bet it wasn't the nicest experience for them either.
