So I was thinking about how the system works as to if someone has $100 worth of games in their library.

Here is where I found the problem: How much they have (According to Steam Database) How much they have in games without the free weekend

As you can see, Steam Database thinks they have $154.94 in games, when really they have about $40 in games. Chivalry and Defiance made it appear that they had more than $100, though, so they ended up being able to register.

I know that the point of the $100 is to make sure people don't leech, so that's why this should be at least of minor concern, as people who join at the right time could have far less worth of games than they actually have. In fact, this could end up being abused by people by using multiple accounts.

What do you propose we do? Do we just keep the system the same, recognizing it's flaws but realizing there is no better solution? Or do we try to find a way to calculate them correctly?

Huh. Interesting. I've never thought of this before, but yeah this is something SG should try and fix.

Make the site premium and give one(or more) invite(s) to the already registered members(some rules may applied)

that would be so convenient

I disagree with that one. I know I wouldn't be bothered to send them out, and I know I'm not alone there, so it would cut down on new members by a lot, and new members are good. This site isn't Demonoid where it needs a good ratio before you get banned and the invites prove you're on the up and up. Also, I feel like it would encourage alts... "Well, if I've got three extra invites any way..."

We should raise the limit while there is a free weekend.

I think it would be easier if we just raise the limit period. That would require serious discussion, though, since less users is bad for everyone, regardless of what people think about new people not knowing how the system works. For every 1 fake giveaway made by a new user, there are ten great giveaways.

True. Sadly, $150 wouldn't be enough, as you saw from up there that it thought they had $154

I think two high value free weekends at the same time might be rare enough that 150 should be fine, especially if bundle games count less, which a post below says is probably right. Still, I could be wrong, or people might not want it to happen at all which would make 175 or 200 better numbers.

Yes. I think around $200 would be good.

I remember when I first tried to join, it said I had $0 worth of games, when I actually had about $400 worth of games (Thank you holiday sale!). That pertains to nothing here, just something I remember

Close the registrations during free weekends :)

I think I've read somewhere that the bundle game mechanic is also used when determining the value of an account. So I guess it might be possible to add games to the bundle game during the free weekend.

Interesting question...

When one of those bogus value guys wins a giveaway (and if they don't win anything, who cares?) someone will probably notice and report them. Don't actually know if you can get suspended for account value faking, though...
