"I still want old Battletoads and DD from Rare on Steam"

You'll have to bug Arc System Works for that one, since they own Double Dragon now. They just don't seem very interested in putting the older Technos-related NES stuff on Steam at all. :(

Arc has revived some series like River City Ransom (actually not sure if revived or if the series never died), and having played River City Girls, it was pretty good. Maybe?

I've already played most of those .They announced the DD+Kunio collection that got released on consoles for Steam, then quietly canceled it and put all the games in a single Japanese digital PC game store.

I wasn't expecting the new Technos collection to hit Steam, but it did.

I don't do consoles, I want to give them money, but they don't want it. And now they're mostly doing Guilty Gear and farming out the IP to others (see: River City Girls, the new Double Dragon games.)

As Nintendo's currently releasing the old NES (battletoads, double dragon, etc) games for their retro emulators available to Nintendo Switch Online subscription holders, it seems incredibly unlikely the NES versions of the games would be released anywhere else in the meantime (namely as any NES game would need to have Nintendo's approval for emulation, and Nintendo's the type of company that wouldn't give approval even if they weren't actively using something.)

Battletoads is out of the scope of the topic you presented, as that'd have to involve rights-holder Rare (though, interesting note, Arc System Works did handle the original Mega Drive adaptation of the game, back when, along with porting Double Dragon to Master System, so them making PC ports for either game would really be living up to their past), so to address Double Dragon:

Currently the original Double Dragon games are locked up due to this poorly received Steam release, so there's presumably no chance of seeing an additional release of the original game on Steam- at the very least, for a very long time to come.

There are TONS of NES games on Steam. Nintendo doesn't have a say on whether or not a game can be released outside of their platform, companies used to be scared of it but no one seems to care anymore. All they have to do is remove their name from the game. Hell, Arc System Works has released Technos' old NES games on Playstation 4 and Xbox One (in Japan.)

The only obstacle here is Arc Sys themselves not wanting to do the work. I'm sure Rare would be fine with the games being released that way.

And DotEmu's cancerous shitport only applies to the arcade versions, not the NES ones.

Nice! I think I'll grab this. Reviews aren't great for it but I mean, the only battletoads game I played was on the SNES, and that one was essentially a mash of 'minigames' too. At least, each level had its own weird theme, but was limited by the times.

We'll see how this goes.

For $2, I think it's fine. Don't expect greatness.
It's mostly a compilation of mini games.

I never trust reviews, and sometimes I like to play games that aren't very good, but which the authors tried to do well, just lacked something, but that one... The reviews are very true, I really don't like it.

Thanks for the information, for that price I could have tried it, which I did.
