(would we even "trust" them).

Just because somebody is a person it's still not guaranteed they are telling the truth. News reports were always biased from the point of "what to cover?", and then there's Fox (not) News that is only a news channel in its name, BY LAW. I don't think AI is really less than a lying party-solider who reports fabricated news, like it's tradition here in Hungary under the egis of our glorious leader.

I sense a bit of bias. The actual news segments of most channels are the same where they differ is the entertainment sections like Rachal Maddow or Tucker Carlson. They are not "news" but opinion shows.

It's not bias. Fox has defended itself in court by saying no one could reasonably believe what their presenters say, and that they aren't news but an entertainment channel.

They aren't the only ones MSNBC, CNN, and others have used that defense for their talking head people in defamation cases in the US. I consider it a bias as they are all basically the same.

Damnn I had no idea about this.
Regarding trust, as the other user mentions doesn't matter who is sharing the news. Matters how credible their reporting has been over the years.
The onus is also on us to consult various sources of news that are scientific, ethical and logical in their approach. But for that level of discernment one would need to educate themselves as well. Which is hard for us as a society, regardless of the country.

I personally wouldn't mind getting told curated information (news) via an AI generated presenter. Perhaps in the future, they could add interesting elements to this. Like maybe making the presenter more interactable to us, customizing our feed and listening to our broad selections via the AI presenter. I would imagine this could mean a different generation of TVs or devices/software to tune up degree of interaction with our devices.

Most folks only look to have their biases and thoughts validated by those around or by whatever they consume. We aren't taught well enough to challenge our own thoughts and ideas with reason aka Critical thinking :(

Do we really need AI for this, though? People literally watch vtubers. A badly drawn cardboard cornbread could be a presenter and people would still watch it. And this crap comes straight out of the newer Deus Ex games, let me tell you.

Also Kuwait has been testing an AI-generated news presenter in March 2023.

Huh, a news presenter almost certainly devoid of both verbal and nonverbal cues would be an...interesting proposal. I'm on the fence on whether or not it ever catches on because, while it saves a few pennies, stations will likely still need in-life interviewers and sportscasters and I have a feeling interviewees will gravitate towards stations with actual people to communicate with over AIs on monitors. I think the real question isn't whether or not people 'trust' AI news presenters but rather whether or not people will engage in 'face-to-face' 'discussions' with AI news presenters over actual news presenters.

Huh?
I think it has been around for a long time.

There is also an AI that writes light novels, and there will be some creative works where the author is not actually human, but there is actually a ghostwriter present with the AI.

What I personally find scary is the existence of an AI that translates and subtitles the statements of world dignitaries in real-time translation.
If there are no monitors fluent enough in the languages of other countries to interpret whether the translations are wrong or not, even if they are misinterpreted as bad content, there could be a tragedy like mistaking the meaning of war for peace, or the end of war for a nuclear attack.
After all, when using these things, AI is a tool, and at the very least, what is being done? I feel that there is a need to visualize the accuracy of these translations in case there is a possibility that they may be wrong.

(If we are not careful, we may end up with a flood of subtitles that are green for high translation accuracy, yellow for questionable translations, and purple for parts that may be wrong.)😂
