I recently noticed that I have created 99 giveaways on this site, so I wanted to do something to celebrate 100+. Since Steam has a number of Mega Drive games available, I decided I'd purchase several of those, some of the earliest titles that I played when I was getting into games (only preceded by a Sega SG-1000 which doesn't have games available on Steam). While I'm unable to get Cyborg Justice, other titles like Sonic the Hedgehog, Shining Force, Columns and Streets of Rage are listed in the Steam store. Perfect for what I was planning.

Made me curious if other users here can find their first games on Steam.

And no giveaways in this topic. I don't get paid for a few more days, I'm just working out how much dosh I'd need for my plans.

My first games were on Coleco and Atari, so probably not. Then Nintendo. Still probably not. I do like the Sega stuff being on there, though. I hope they do all the systems, eventually. It would be nice to have all of that attached to Steam.

Other consoles aren't likely to happen, Sega have just been into porting their games to PC for years, even while they still made gaming systems. Someone like Nintendo, even if they had some incentive to to make up for the loss of selling their consoles, doesn't have the experience with the system.

Sorry, I meant all the Sega stuff. I liked the Sega consoles more than the Nintendo ones, back in the day. I would love to see as many Saturn, Dreamcast, Genesis, Sega CD, etc..., games end up on Steam, as possible. I always bought Sega products because the sports games were great, but I rented games all the time, so I pretty much played all of them. I miss the memories.

Oh, yeah, that I could agree with. 3rd part titles would never happen, but still some great stuff I missed since I could never find a Saturn or DreamCast.

Yeah, wouldn't matter anyway. Sega never had great third party titles. That was their downfall. They had some, but not too many. Sony ended up rising up because they nailed so many third party licenses, while Nintendo and Sega were still going old school, trying to push out their own games. I loved their sports games, back in the day. They are 2k sports, now. I had all of their games in the 90s and early 2000s.

There's a small amount of Dreamcast games (ports) on Steam. I'd recommend Jet Set Radio :D

Yeah, Atari was where I started and as such I'm unlikely to see many of the first memories there. And most of the Nintendo games won't come either I don't think.

They would have to get out of the hardware business, like Sega. I personally think it would be a great move. They could produce games for all systems and probably make more money overall. I think that Nintendo, as a game and peripheral company, would be quite nice to see. I think a lot of people would love to play their games on more powerful systems, with better setups, and not to feel like they have to buy a Nintendo, just to play the popular Nintendo games. Just my personal opinion, though.

Won't happen. They make a good bit of money on their consoles just selling them since they use lower end hardware, and would be paying licensing fees to other companies rather than collecting them.

And Sega was doing PC titles even before they stopped producing regular consoles, hiring emulator programmers in the past to get their games onto PC. Nintendo wouldn't have that experience.

By far not my earliest gaming memories, but one of my first PC memories :P

Almost. There's definitely a bunch of the Genesis titles that take me back, including Streets of Rage 2, which was the first game I ever "bought" (realistically, I probably contributed like two bucks to the SoR2 + Genesis bundle while older siblings/parents covered the rest). Needs the NES versions of Contra and Tetris to reach all the way back, though.

+1 for Cyborg Justice. I loved that game.

So much nostalgia with that game. Me and my brother would play Cyborg Justice until early in the morning.

I can't really remember offhand many games that I used to play, but Red Alert went freeware, and Turok: Dinosaur hunter isn't on steam, so I guess not.

I don`t realy remember what games I was playing on PS when I was a kid, but for pc I can find only x-com - most of the games I was playing were created by 3DO or Blizzard anyway.

PS: They should add on steam such games as Severance: BoD, Heretic, Homm3, Drakan, TA, Army Men ...

I first started playing video games in 1974. The Atari 2600 VCS (and a whole lot of other things) came out in 1977. Steam didn't come out until 2002.

My current Steam profile is actually my second. (My first was abandoned.)

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeelll no it doesn't. My first gaming memories were of some pong console on a black & white TV at the house of some millionaire my great aunt worked for.

First gaming machine I owned was a secondhand c64 with tape drive, which introduced me to such classics as Boulderdash, Space Taxi, Montezuma's Revenge, Raid Over Moscow, Gauntlet etc.

After that my brother and I bought an Amiga 500 with all the epic epicness of epicosity that entailed.

**** yeah, Gauntlet. Wish that the Mega Drive collection on Steam would include Tengen games so we could have Gauntlet IV. Best version of the game.

Nope, no NES games on Steam (though I had Dendy in my childhood - not NES).
And my first computer game was Alley Cat and it is not on Steam too.

No Pong, nothing that I played on a CDC, no VIC 20 or Spectrum games, not even C64 games. So all of my early gaming isn't here. There are a few Amiga games, such as Another World and adventures which were on both Amiga and PC at the time (Indiana Jones for example).
