I don't remember the process to send a gift to a winner.
But I don't see why the two of them would be "confused" by Steam unless the custom profile ID "max_thrust" was at one time used by one and then the other? Because the similarity of the profile names should be irrelevant--Steam doesn't care about profile names as they are positively dynamic.
Is it possible for it to be a guy with more than one account who managed to transfer his win somehow?
Edit: or something weird happened on your end or something.

my GA ended and i added the winner
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197977276646/
some hours later this guy added me
http://steamcommunity.com/id/max_thrust/
and if i click now on the winners steam profile from the SG profile the one who added me is appearing
what is wrong here?
edit:
the "old" winner is not accepting my friend request on steam
the n"ew" winner is not answering my messages in steamchat
now i deleted the old one and are going to wait until the new one is answering
