This was a popular candidate for worst bosses back in the day so this will sound unoriginal but I have to go with the roided up Joker from Batman Arkham Asylum, it's just bad from every angle you look at it, mechanically, thematically, and narrative-wise. And to top it all off it's extremely buggy and janky, Arkham Asylum is such a good game and then the final boss just violently shits the bed at the last second. The first time I tried fighting him he spawned in a T pose floating in the middle of the arena and being invulnerable, it's that level of broken.

I just played this and, yeah, it is not great. You are not even fighting Titan Joker, just running away from him in that tight ass arena and beating up his goons. For me the hardest was controlling my character as the final fight felt kinda like a 2.5 D game to me.
Fighting in general was a lot more janky and harder to get the timing right compared to Arkham City and Arkham Knight. Especially on Hard difficulty.

Bane, early on in Arkham Asylum.
Spent hours taking down him and the infinite amount of henchmen sent in.
Finally noticed the idiot special button that flashed up on screen to pull out his breathing apparatus.
Death of games as far as I'm concerned.

I really like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, I’ve beaten it five times, it’s the only game I’ve finished more than twice.
But I hate the Demon of Hatred, he's an optional boss that I've never beaten. It feels like he came straight from Dark Souls, he’s the largest boss in the game that actually moves. The whole fight feels clumsy, wide hitboxes, he always runs and jumps, and the camera gets crazy. Sounds normal for Dark Souls, but these games are different.

I hated Vampyr boss battles.
Even regular battles where a pain.
I eventually never finished the game because it autosaved me without a way out before an encounter with 2 strong ass enemies. No way of actually beating them and no way of getting out of the battle to get stronger.
The previous boss battles I was able to beat with 3 or 4 tries. The combat system in the game was horrid. I loved the story and concept, but the combat system was one of the worst ones Ive played. You could be killed by one punch by an enemy several levels below you and sometimes you could kill with one punch an enemy way above your level. It was inconsistent, lock on system ruined very fight that had 3 or more enemies.

The Adamantoise a level 99 turtle in Final Fantasy XV is one of the worst boss fights I ever experienced. It takes ages to whittle away its health bar and despite I experienced no major visual glitches in other parts of the game this fight has clipping errors galore leading me to think QA was absent as this part of the game was developed.
You can't save in battle so you'll have to start over should you run out of potions or time to play which is extremely aggravating for such a long fight.

I've fought harder bosses, but the final boss in Geist was possibly the worst, due to the design of the second phase.
Phase 1: Fight a man in a wheelchair. It flies and shoots rockets while ghosts are trying to possess you so it's actually pretty cool. And (this part is important) it's consistent with the rest of the game.
Phase 2: Jump out of your borrowed body into his, to fight the demon in his head. I'm sorry, did I say "demon"? I meant "the controls" because the game suddenly changes from FPS to... I don't even know what to call it. I think it might have originally been a space station docking simulator?
(snipped extremely long rant)
Let's just say the sheer volume of questionable design decisions in that fight made it way harder than it was probably intended to be.

the infamous alpha-152 from dead or alive 4... spammy high damage combos (that are absolutely braindead to execute, e..g. mash the kick button 6 times, etc... as we found out in the sequel where she became playable), along with input reading..... makes for a very very painful fight, that you need to experience for multiple characters because their stories all end with that fight...

Super Meatboy: The whole game is designed around rapid restarts and trying over and over. Last boss fight has you wait around at the start for like 10 seconds which in that game is a lot. And that boss is not easy, really frustrating.
Senua's Sacrifice: Last boss sends waves of enemies at you. After something like 15 minutes I was wondering what i was missing or doing wrong. Started trying to do weird shit that got me killed eventually and guess what, that's what you have to do. Just die, even though the fight is easy enough so you could do it infinitely. Terrible design imo.
Shadow of Mordor: Final boss fight used to be just a QTE, but it has been patched and replaced with an actual fight thankfully.

Hate to say it but it’s gotta be the Elden Beast. I cannot comprehend why someone thought it would be a good final boss, even after the patch which allows you to use Torrent, I still found myself just trying to get close enough for the majority of the fight. Radagon is a good fight, but I find it hard to enjoy when I know what’s coming next, they could’ve just given him a modified move set for the second phase.
To stay on theme, seems like Elden Ring can’t get the hang of final bosses, since the Shadow of the Erdtree one (pre nerf at least, haven’t gone back to play it again since that yet) was not very fun to fight either. To be fair though, I never truly understood the hype about base game Radhan either, just not my type of boss.
Anyway still love Elden Ring, despite the final bosses haha 🫶

Dark Fact from Ys 1 is an absolutely brutal boss or Seymour Flux from FFX (both give me PTSD)

The final boss in A Plague Tale:Innocence
First, you're not technically the one fighting it,you're the one that has to stand in the line of fire while assisting your brother who's fighting him.To win you need to quickly switch between you abilites with some F1 driver reaction timeand have to have pixel perfect positioning when using them, while also having to traverse the arena from side to side with Usain Bolt quickness.
Needless to say after 30 minutes of banging my head against it i dropped the game.

Same here, had to watch the epilogue on YouTube. I'd been basically playing a story-driven adventure game with some casual stealth - and then this fight happened.

Played lots of games but in my case its not a boss but a game scene from mafia definitive edition. Chapter #9 Mission name 'A trip to the old country'. I cant destroy the police armored vehicle turret, so i uninstalled the game. I played almost every game from 2001 till today but nothing was that difficult. I never uninstall games without the ending.

mirrors edge boss after an unskipable cut scene if if you dont press that one button at that one point he tosses you off a building before it even starts.
died to him like 20+ and looked it up online
found a person saying it only worked with a controller and BAM did it in one try....

Simon from Clair Obscur. F*ck that guy. He has two large health bars, steals your armor (even if he is stunned), has an unavoidable attack that sets party member's HP to 1. He can remove downed party members from the fight, and one time he can remove the whole party and you have to finish the fight with the reserved characters.

I thought he was easy when I beat him years ago on my SNES.

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness has probably the worst bossfights I've ever encountered in my life.

Amon from yakuza franchise
Basically in yakuza games, once you finish all availabe sidequests, you unlock a final sidquest which is to beat Amon.
I enjoy doing sidequests in any game. I think sidequests can really breathe life into the world of a game. So when I started my journey of Yakuza, I wanted to do all sidequests for fun.
Unfortunately, Amon's gimmick is just bullshit. That's the best way to describe his fighting "style" and how it feels fighting him and so far the best way I found to beat him is to do bullshit way more than him to barely even the field.

Haven't encountered him, but the final boss of Yakuza Kiwami is pretty awful

For me it was Cave Story final level/boss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HrGAqwc9vQ
No matter how many times i tried i just couldn't do it. at the end i just gave up and just rage smashed my keyboard against the table so hard that the keys just scattered across the room lol. I never got back to it. The game is great though i love it.

For me half of the bosses in Hollow Knight, i just cant get used to that dodge windows\hitboxes, even with full nail and different builds from guides. Completed save around 70-80% before DLC and final boss, after coloseum and dropped it lost interest.
Maybe i expected more of Castelvania-like gameplay, it felt much smoother. (maybe skill issue on my side)

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams last boss
Long intro unskippable animations and RNG that may kill you do not make it fun. Total mood changer from the whole game.

I am EXTREMELY mad right now.
I have been trying for DAYS to beat a quest boss in a Dead Island 2 side quest.
Now I know I don't HAVE to do the quest but I am at the end of it so....
So now, I have had a thought. What are some of the WORST bosses in games you have ever fought? These do NOT need to be final bosses. Mini bosses, mid bosses and even side quest bosses. All count.
