I'm looking to expand my whitelist, I've only got 25 people on there currently, I'd like there to be a few more before I do a giveaway for Katamari Damacy Reroll

Right now my only requirement is go try my latest game Become Prey 2 or Become Prey and tell me what you think in the comments.

Gosh, maybe one day I'll take a crack at that one day, I certainly want to, but I don't even know where to start, and I imagine it'd take alot of time to learn.

Oh I know. ^^ I just do think it'd be cool to release a game that you did have to use OG hardware or an emulator to play. I know a few devs who do that for NES and Gameboy.

ok so played it.got 30 coyotes and got a 92500 score
Pros. was cool, to good graphics for the ps1, but still good. loved this little story side of it. highly relatable. and the aiming was just there. perfect amount of blood, not to gory more realistic.the ding sound after you killed a coyote was a little annoying, but sounded like a ps1. just scary enough, but still enough for me to keep playing :)
Cons. tons of glitches and bugs from the coyotes, some i could not even kill because they where stuck in the wall. others where moving around once i killed them. after them attacking me it was super hard to kill them, and they would glitch around me and stuff. didn't really like the ground when moving kinda bury, but it was okay.
after playing i would give this a solid 7/10 it has a lot of potential!

I understand. I didn't make one at launch cause it wouldn't save. I spent some time trying to figure out what was wrong and I got a Linux build up. Would you be kind enough to let me know if there are any major bugs on the platform? I don't have a linux machine.

it started and it's all it did. launched on my second monitor, kinda full screen (one gray square with some brown? border). and that's it. had to open tty to kill it, that's never a good sign.

here's a log if it helps: https://pastebin.com/ZuyNBxhL
guessing by lines in log, there's a lot of failing going on

also in cli it detected size of second monitor correctly, yet in log it's clear it is using resolution of main screen:

Thank you for the log. By the looks of it, the issue is that my custom PS1 shader isn't working. Or at least that's the one error I can discern. That's mighty unfortunate. I don't really know what I could do to fix it, and with out my own device to run tests... I gave it a go. if it doesn't work, it is what it is.

Again, thank you for taking the time.

with second gpu there are less errors but it still doesn't work:

I tried, but I couldn't. The ground texture made my head hurt. It might just be me - I can't play Minecraft, or the original Doom and Doom II, for the same reason. The low resolution, blurry textures just make my head hurt.

I realize that's not the most helpful of comments. Sorry. :(

I totally get that affine texturing isn't nice to everyone. It messes with my partner something awful as well.

I appreciate that you tried to push past it anyway. Thank you.

Interesting!

My gun wasn't powerful enough to kill anything before I was swarmed in the second level, but I can give my opinions based on my experience with the first.

What I liked:

I like the pixel effect that blurs objects the farther away they are. It works in two ways: As a practical way of making it difficult to snipe dogs from across the map, as well as creating an uncertain, eerie feeling to the environment.

The shooting was fun as well. Picking off dogs as they bolted towards me felt snappy and responsive.

What I didn't like:

It's extremely difficult to dispatch dogs when they're on close to you. Shooting them point-blank didn't seem to work. Some type of melee feature may be handy.

It's a bit of a nit-pick, but given the rifle's importance, you would expect it to have a loud, commanding roar as you fire off rounds. It sounds a bit like a cap gun.

Overall, I thought it was a neat little game. Keep it up!

Thank you very much for taking the time to try it.

The second level was meant to be a sneaking level. It's on me as a designer that wasn't more clear.

The melee suggestion is good, and will be heavily considered the next time I make a game like this.

Would you believe the gun shot sound is just me clapping my hands with some distortion? I try to make everything from scratch, for better or for worse.

i finish it and get the ending b, this are my thoughts.
what i like
-I am nostalgic about the psx era so i really like the esthetics, the intro and menus looks really cool
-the controls are pretty good and the shooting is fun

what i didn like
-the sound fx specially for the coyotes there was some times that 20 coyotes were following me and it sound like only 1
-the coyotes are very glichy when they gets close to you and its really hard to shot them cause of that
-after level one is a little dificcult to know what the objective is

First of all, thanks for the free game.
Everything about the hunter is not bad, including the image and the sound.
And here're some suggestions:

  1. mini map is needed.
  2. the ground seemed to be flowing like water when the hunter is moving, which made me dizzy.
  3. it's 2020, bro. The ps1 graphics, seriously?
  4. When the wolves came up to me and attacked me, I can do nothing but watch them killing me.
  5. The attack action of the wolves is bad.

Apologize for my poor English

Those are valid critiques. It helps to have a map.

I have alot of nostalgia for PS1 era. I also think the low fidelity can enhance the horror exp. (Not to mention it's easier on the development.)

Though affine texture mapping (the warping that made the ground flow weird) can be quite ugly. I'll try in my next game to have a toggle for it. Same with the vertex wobble.

I thank you for taking the time to try it. ^^

A bump can be nice, but it should just be as simple as downloading the file, unzip it, run the exe. Although if youre mac or linux I don't know if there are extra steps.

Ok, I tried the game. I thought it was ok. I like PS1 graphics and low poly models, so that was good. I also didn't expect multiple levels with different ideas, so that was cool too. Controls were pretty easy for me to figure out, and I liked the way you did the aiming (because it felt more retro).

I feel like the enemies could be improved. They don't react to being hit by bullets, once they get close to you, it feels like you don't really have any options (I would just awkwardly circle or back strafe and shoot, melee option would have been cool). I liked the idea of a stealth level (I love stealth games), but i didn't really have to think much. I just followed the path of gems, and used the sneak walk when closer to coyotes.

I tried the bonus levels briefly, but I found the enemies too bullet spongy and I don't really want to grind through the same levels just to feel like I have a fair chance in the bonus level (as well as the final boss).

And yeah, I do like playing Itch.io games from time to time, because there's a lot of experimental stuff. I remember playing the SUPERHOT game jam version back in the day, and it was cool to see it ended up becoming not only a full-released game, but one that was very successful. Baba is You, is another similar case, and there are others. A recent game that I really enjoyed from there is Project Kat (I eagerly await the full game).

Oh, and good luck with your game dev endeavors. I wish you the best of success.

Thank you for the kind words. ^^ I'll certainly try to improve my next endeavor.

I spent alot of time on trying to make the stealth work and be fun, but I ran out of time for the jam, so I just made the level more a palette cleanser than a real challenge.

I'm hoping that I can take the AI I wrote up though, and with some more polish really get something out of it, cause the base is there for sight and sound.

That's a valid thought on the bonus levels. I could have designed them to ramp up better from where the player would be at the end of the story levels.

As for itch, yeah, I really love coming across games before they hit big. It's such a treat to find a gem early. I was one of the first people to drop do a video on "North" and it became my most successful video (back when I was doing let's plays)

Plus, I like to encourage small devs. I know getting any kind of feed back really fuels me up. ^^

Oh yeah, I downloaded Project Kat, but I totally forgot to take some time. I think I found it right in the middle of developing this game in April. I think I'll give that a go today. Thank you for the reminder.

I tried it, but I couldn't figure out what to do in the part where you run into a group of deer (I'll admit I'm not very smart...)
Usually I don't have a problem with old (or old looking) graphics, but the ground texture was making me dizzy.
The story was interesting though, I would have liked to finish it. Maybe I'll give it another try later :)

In BP1 you aren't missing much after the chase sequence. The hope was that players would run back to the start, where the game ends with one last text box.
