The OAuth (or whatever it was called) thing is long gone. But you still have the option on humble bundle, etc to generate a gift link that can be used to obtain a Steam key. Why people don't just obtain the Steam keys and trade/gift those I don't entirely understand - but there are certainly at least some legit traders who just prefer to give out the links.

I see that more information is necessary.
Here is the traders thread i was referring to.

Look at his inventory - everything he describes as a 'gift link' in his thread is a Steam gift in his inventory. I don't know why he is describing them as 'gift links' but that is clearly what he is trying to trade.

'gift links' are just that, it is the url steam sends out when you choose 'send gift via e-mail' in the client. you can send that email to yourself, and then you have a link you can easily send to whomever you want, even if you do not know their e-mail address/steam profile.
for example, one i recieved a while ago (so no, it will not activate for you :P) : https://store.steampowered.com/account/ackgift/DA6875492B0BEC29?redeemer=

Traders offering gift links. Anyone with experience with these? Are they a scam as I thought steam had shut down the API for gift links or wasn't offering them anymore. Was it insecure and are these hacked links?
Anyone with information please speak up.
