Free to play if its purely cosmetic items or at least in a way wich doesnt benefit the person who does pay trough micro transactions [usually in f2p games] Paid games if its Buy2play [sub based like wow have too many people invested alrdy in it for toolong hence it keeps it up but i do agree in terms of service and what they provide compared to f2p mmo's i can understand] [THIS IS JUST MY OPINION]

I prefer the LOTRO style. It is partially F2P but you have to pay to get more content. This way ensures that the company can continue to give content. F2P with cosmetics only is ok, but unless the game is famous, it is going to stumble. In lotro I can choose whether I want to buy the content once and for all or pay monthly to unlock it. So, spending about 100€ in lotro got me the whole game unlocked for me to enjoy whenever I want. In wow I spent, in the past, 100€ only for the expansions (till Cataclysm) and a lot of money in subscriptions and now I cannot even log in and see my character...

I hate the wow style... monthly pay + pay for expansions? No, Either the one or the other is good. Not both.

It is incorrect. There is no advantage at all in-game in games like DOTA2 or LoL by paying money. Any person who says they are p2w are either trolling, misinformed, or fools.

You are right about Dota 2, but in LoL you can buy heroes or you need to grind to buy them, maybe its not big advantage but it's somethin, it's not like Dota 2 f2p system, in LoL you don't have all heroes available.

If you get frustrated by PLAYING the game you shouldn't play it at all.

Comment has been collapsed.

Every? Hmm... let's see.

Team Fortress 2 - no P2W mechanics, all additional weapons are side-weapons, not direct upgrades or anything like that, they feature different play styles.
Loadout - no P2W mechanics, the only things that affect progression are boosters, all weapon upgrades and attachments can ONLY be bought with in-game currency. Real money currency is spent on boosters and cosmetic items. Also, you sometimes get cosmetic items from daily rewards.
Warframe - no P2W mechanics, because it's mainly based as a PvE game. Sure, there is PvP, but it all depends on your skills, NOT on your weapons. Recent updates balanced the weapons and frames in order to have an equal, challenging gameplay. Of course, you can BUY those weapons with real money, but all items can be obtained without spending a penny. Trading rare items for real money currency makes this game a strong candidate of Non-P2W games. Of course, you need real money currency in order to have more inventory slots, but that's pretty much it.
Path of Exile - Same thing as Warframe, except this game has NO boosters. All items paid with real money are cosmetic items. Sure, you need real money currency in order to have more inventory slots, but that's pretty much it.

Ya see, these games are trying to stay relevant in the gaming industry. There are other F2P games that I haven't mentioned , but most of the games what you see on Steam are cash grabs, games where you have no other option but to pay in order to have fun, the list goes on. cough Ghost Recon F2P cough. Next time do some research, than just saying "Every game is P2W."

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Also, some F2P games are ruined by new developers by making them P2W. Old devs wanted to make these games with less to no P2W mechanics, but if they get bought out or worse, fired, other devs or publishers have whole freedom to transform the game into a P2W mess, as a result, many players left the game, because they don't want to deal with this nonsense.

In Dota only stuff you can buy is cosmetic stuff, all heroes and other gameplay things are available to everyone from start.

There is mode for new players where you have small hero pool, but that is just one of few modes that you can choose before you start queue, maybe you played that mode, if you play dota again one day, pick all pick mode (that is mode that majority of players play) and you will have all heroes available.

That might be true if you're only looking at multiplayer games. I for my part, am done with multiplayer. Seriously, what's the point competing with a bunch of 13yr old who got no life? Ideally, a good singleplayer game comes with a nice story and is like a book where you can influence the story. It's the only thing worth playing for me, these days. It's kinda hard to deliver that experience on a ftp with ptw model. They might make a few extra bucks by selling dlcs, and that's it. And it's fine with me. It all just depends on the price.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I agree. Games like CS:GO, which I bought half year ago, started to be really famous (btw - WHY? THIS GAME IS SO OLD I STARTED SO LATE CAUSE I HAVEN'T HAD A GOOD PC) and bunch of kids started to playing it. Yeah, someone can say "there you pay for skins, not weapons like tf2", yeah, that's true but you can buy cheats that hide before VAC and there is enormous bunch of cheaters too! It's so disappointing. I wanted to play the latest CS cause I like it, it's a good multiplayer game but always I wanted to play some competitive there were all of kids in my team or cheaters. How can I enjoy game with cheater? (both sides, even more disappointing to play with cheater in your team...) On my profile you can see 300 hours of mine playing CS:GO, but I enjoyed about 5, maybe 10 matches which is not even 1/10 of that time, I'm out :/

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My point wasn't so much about cheaters, it's that competition itself in multiplayer, that makes it pointless for me. It doesn't really matter if you pick pve or pvp game, there's always someone who spends a lot more time and energy on it. So even if they earn it without any cheating, it's still no fun.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's the truth, and yep I didn't want the point to be cheaters and pvp. The sad thing now is that single player games or coops were oftener thing before, now people play CS, COD, BF and it's harder to find some new single player with good storyline, cause it doesn't give as much profit as multiplayer games give :/ Seriously, some years ago me and friend were finding new and new coop games to play on xbox, now we totally got owned by boredom, we finished most games we enjoyed, and if we find something it doesn't give that much fun. Last hope in Borderlands, Halo and games like that which we fully completed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm I don't have any difficulties in finding nice single player games with a rich storyline on Steam. And it seems to me that new ones are added quite often. All that CS, BF, COD and whatever hype doesn't really concern me. Maybe this is because I don't like FPS anyway, I've always been more the RPG and adventure game person, with the occasional strategy or 3rd person action game in between.

Free game = horrible community, specially the Spanish-speaking community (no idea why, but that's true), and hackers everywhere. Same with those game that has been given away for at least a single day (like L4D2 or Battlefield 3)
Paid game = nice community, no stupid kids and almost no hackers. Most expensive the game is and less discounts receive, less hackers.

free to play games ? more like "free to pay" cuz most f2p games are pay 2 win,or even if not really pay 2 win,if u pay u get boosters so u can get the better stuff a lot faster than free players, the only real f2p games are those which only charge u for cosmetic stuff,so for the most part just stick to the f2p model of f2p games or just get paid games that are once and for all paid, not subscription fees and bullshit like that...

Getting stuff faster doesn't mean that it's p2w - you just pay for saving your time

Permalink

nope,in many ways it is pay 2 win, since the free way to get the items is either taking REALLY LONG TIME,or is EXTREMELY HARD,or in some cases actually impossible and is only available via payment...you clearly did not get my point there

WOW is pretty much F2P for me now that they opened up the Buy Time w/ Gold model. I pumped my account out 'til next year, and got all 4 of my kids an account and extended those out, too, since I don't have to keep paying a monthly sub fee on them. Making gold is ridiculously fast and easy for me. I'm an altoholic, so just spending about 30-45 minutes daily between all my characters and sending out followers gets me between 7.5k to 10k gold per day. And I wait and buy tokens when they dip to under 21k each week.

The price of the tokens can't stay this low forever, so I'm trying to get my account extended out as far as they'll let me (I've hit the max monthly token purchase limit).
