I've been out of the game for a while and I threw this together based on some reviews, scores etc.

I'd like to stay under $900 is possible but under $1k is the max.

$862

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-6600 3.30GHz 6MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1151 (Skylake)

Motherboard: GIGABYTE G1.Sniper Z170 SLI ATX w/ USB 3.1, 3 PCIe x16, 2 PCIe x1, 3 SATA Express, 6 SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2

RAM / System Memory: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR4/2800MHz Dual Channel Memory (ADATA XPG Z1)

Video Card: AMD Radeon R9 390X 8GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 Video Card (Single Card)

Well i5 or i7 throws the price up way too much. AMD is cheaper. Do they not have any new CPUs? The lastest new chip is that A10...

Consider posting to /r/buildapcforme or /r/buildapc for help making a build...or just browse both of them, there are probably many builds in the same price range that would fit your needs.

Also, use PCPartPicker. Good for checking compatibility and prices.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • A legitimate install of Windows costs money. I don't personally condone piracy, but whatever, I can't stop you. If you're a student, you might be able to get it discounted or possibly even free.
  • Make sure to search for reviews on your PSU at sites that tear it apart, e.g., JonnyGURU, TechPowerUp, etc.
  • Browse /r/buildapcsales for deals on good stuff, but make sure to check the comments and do your research before buying.
  • 8 GB might be enough now, depending on what you play, but I'd recommend either getting a 1 x 8 GB stick so you can upgrade to 16 GB, or going straight to 16 GB now. Some games are notorious for memory leaks. (I'm looking at you, PlanetSide 2.)
  • Haven't looked at prices, but might want to see if an Intel Haswell system (ix 4000 series processors) could be cheaper than an Intel Skylake (ix 5000 series) system.
  • Get an SSD. Trust me. It's worth it. Even if you end up getting a smallish SSD for just your Windows install and some games/programs that are important with a HDD for storing everything else, if you need more space on your budget.
  • Don't buy the best to try to make it last forever. It won't. You'll throw a lot of money away on parts that will be outclassed by cheaper parts later down the road.

I own WIn 7 and 10 is free, so. That's what I figured. Also yea I normally aim to get 3-4 years out of a PC. At least gaming wise, I know it iwll last longer then that otherwise.

"own Win7 and 10 is free"

If it's a pre-built PC (That is, from Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.), you can't transfer the license. Win10 is free only as an upgrade. I know they talked about making the fast track (read: beta updates) version available for free to unlicensed (read: pirated) copies, but I think those plans disappeared at some point. (You can still upgrade unlicensed copies of Win7 or Win8.1 to Win10, but it remains unlicensed, and will continue to annoy you about it until you pay up.)
