Also, if we only get 2 per day (instead of the usual 3) on subsequent days then this may be why.

They say ''You can continue and go through your Discovery Queue two more times each day to get a maximum of three card drops each day.'' right on the page with stickers but it's strange because I got only 2 cards as well (I went through the queue more times though).

If you can only do 2 queues a day for cards (which is what it looked like for me) then maybe someone forgot to edit that text saying three. I haven't tried going through the queue an extra time yet though.

Looks like it was a bug and seems like they already patched it. No mention of the Steam Awards on the "How do I earn card drops?" section and the extra cards are not dropping.

Go to your badge page and click "How do I earn card drops?" There's an explanation.
Apparently, we got them for voting during The Steam Awards
UPDATE: Extra cards not dropping anymore. Apparently, it was not a surprise gift from Valve. It was a bug and they fixed it :(
