Amazon coins expiring: advice on good paid apps

Any advice on good apps?
I don't necessarily mean games.

I got an email saying my points will expire next 1/9.
Somehow matches with the elimination of the daily free app and introduction of the new "free" apps.

What is the thing about those new 'free' apps? Haven't heard about it before and it would be good to know more info about it if possible.

They try to change the business model. They change normally paid apps into free apps with in-game micropayments. Search for "underground" inside Amazon for more info.

1 year after the end of the month they got claimed.
e.g. received 09.09.2014 -> they expire 31.10.2016

I believe the coins always expire one year after your most recent purchase. So if you buy something today, the rest of your coins won't expire until August next year..

In that case I'm safe, since I just bought Minecraft. For completeness sake, I must say, because I have no plans to even touch it. Could not say the same of my kids though.
