So with Christmas on it's way i was thinking of getting my self a proper gaming keyboard. My budget is around 50euros (60$ ) but with so many options around i;m kinda lost.

I do not have strong preferences towards wired/wireless , led/ledless and if it is mechanical or not but obviously if it looks cool ( and works well ) i would prefer it looking cool :)

Personal experience is most welcome as on paper most of keyboards in this price range looks same.

Thanks:)

Mine is dying. Some keys are starting to die, and sometimes the first key I press doesn't work...I thought it was another problem, but seeing how my keyboard is working it's definitively another issue from it.

So far, I hope (hope, because it's not for sure) to be able to buy one on christmas so this thread is being hijacked.

What I looked for? Well, there are some mechanical for 40euros, wich are from chinese brands who copied the MX cherry thingies, but those things have evolved so much that the copies are nowadays goot by themselves, so there is nothing wrong in buying chinese brands, just some things to expect:

  • Blue switches, wich are apparently in a medium range. They aren't really 'gamer' (but for me this is a good perk).
  • Fuck, they are noisy.
  • Some of them have leds but they aren't programable
  • They are made of plastic.

I totally refuse to pay 100€ or less just for the 'gaming' surname, having dancing leds or the brand.

Fuck thing in europe is that the middle quality/price brands doesn't exist, so you either buy a chinese or a corsair, we don't have anything on the mid.

I have checked them on amazon, mostly. I have no idea about membrane keyboards because I've heard so many good things about mechanicals (they last longer and the pressing is more accurate, etc) that I think I rather buy a mechanical no matter what.

EDIT: Some mistakes I've found, but sure there are more :(

Within your budget, if you want a gaming keyboard, take a look at the Logitech G413 Carbon and the Razer Ornata. Or just get a membrane keyboard from Microsoft or Logitech and call it a day.

FWIW, I tried a mechanical keyboard, with Cherry MX Red switches, because everyone is raving about them, and I didn't like it. I tried it for a week and I didn't like the way it felt, I found typing more tiring, I was mistyping far more often, and I didn't find it beneficial for gaming in any way. I went back to my ancient Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro.

Thanks for your suggestions but both are at 100$ way above my price range.

Oh, sorry, they're much cheaper here.

I guess, take a look at some recommended keyboard lists, and buy accordingly. But I recommend buying from a place where you can easily return them. I wanted to try out mechanical keyboards for a long time, always hearing about how awesome they are. Then when I finally got one, I found that I didn't like it at all. So just because everyone else loves something, doesn't mean that it's right for you.

Is there an online store that you would normally buy PC stuff from? Personally I love Corsair (tough as hell and not a kids toy like Logitech and Razer) but that would be way over what you want to pay.

Well i guess so but they are do not have english menu and they are not really online. You make an order, they deliver it to their 'shop' from some warehouse i guess and then you take it from there.

That's a SteelSeries. I use SteelSeries mice and they have good macro software for the mice and keyboards. That would be fine if you don't want to go for a mechanical keyboard.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-Stream-3-0-USB-Keyboard/dp/B0152WUT06/
Plain rubber dome keyboard, good key rollover for gaming, sturdy, and personally i like the design

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-G80-3850LYB-GB-2-3-0-Keyboard/dp/B00CITN98G
Mechanical, average build quality (at least as good as most gaming ones), more pricy though (bit above your budget)

I have the mechanical one and it is worth it for sure! The only thing that broke is one of the two little things the keyboard stands on because I punched the keyboard one time when I was really, really mad :P

Try A4Tech KL-7MUu. Cheap, reliable, mostly quiet and as a bonus have multimedia keys and USB/micro/headphones connectors. I use my first model with PS2 connector for 8 years (I kick it hard because of reging in game) and it still work, now I use this with usb connector and I like it. It's hard to find better for this money.
Or check newer KV-300H

Is it even mechanical? I don't really recommend high price rubber dome.
It's not worth to pay that price for normal rubber dome that slap led under it.

That corsair it's NOT mechanical.

Just in case it's important

Not mechanical but it's Corsair so it should be premium quality. I never had mechanical one so i dont know how much better it's supposed to be + i do not play something like CS:GO so i dont need it to be super duper accurate, just accurate enough + comfy to use and durable :)

Just saying that premium quality rubber dome is still rubber dome. But if you really love that design, it's your choice.

Using thisone:
https://www.amazon.de/Sharkoon-beleuchtete-Tastatur-Multimedia-Profil-Tasten/dp/B00N3OCV7U

Was looking for a keyboard with illuminated keys for a reasonable price. Using it for 2years now a LOT and it never failed me, great pressure, great reliability.
Good for gaming (but to be honest i use the 18 Macros very rarely (6 macros each in 3 modes)), Multimedia-keys are great.

Only down: when you're planning to type a lot of text, don't get this keyboard. Its ok'ish but its clearly made for gaming then for typing.

A4 Tech stuff never failed me tbh ... they are cheap and durable ... and their bane most of time is just me spilling a beer or some soft drink on them .

I dont really have a specific one i buy ... i just go to the store and get one that looks nice :p

Me too. I'm still using A4 Tech's below $10 keyboard, although I can't call it a gaming keyboard.

I mean ... they may be cheap , and lack the functions the fancy keyboards have by default ...
But for a base keyboard they seem to be pretty much the best i ever bough .

True. For a casual gamer, its more than enough. I'm not into fancy keyboards either.

How the heck... I got my Tt MEKA for 40E not in any kind of sale some years ago... now it's 75E 😑
I recommend it. But not sure that you can find it brand new :/
It's on the cheaper scale. Some funky layout on the right side around the Enter tho, that needs getting used to.
I love the feel of the black switches.

Only bad thing for me is no `ñ´ on the key

Yep, it's an American English layout, but that's what I wanted so no problem here. I would like a big Enter key, though!

i've got a speedlink meta for 25€. rather casual and nothing fancy but good enough. it has been around since 2012 and it's still working perfectly fine. in fact i find it pretty enjoyable to use and i liove the function keys.

i never buy expensive keyboards, long before they actually fail they deserve a biohazard sticker and need to be disposed of in highly specialized facilities.

At that price point I would buy the cheapest/best mechanical I could find. The cheapest ones hear are Motospeed Inflictor CK104, Armaggeddon MKA-3C Psychfalcon etc. I started using one 3 years ago, I won't ever go back to membrane.

At that price point I consider buying a membrane one unreasonable. Get a cheaper one from Logitech for half or even less.

Got a cheap Tracer one a few years ago (probably like 5-7) for probably not more than $30 and it still works perfectly. Never really liked fancy stuff if cheap items offer the same things, IMO. But that's just me, living in a country that is relatively poor.

I've used a 15$ keyboard for 3 years now . It's great keyboard it's just horrible to look at and not comfortable at all.

Well, if it's uncomfortable than it definitely is worth switching to something that fits better, especially if you work (or... have fun?) with a computer a lot. One of the first things that people in IT schools are taught are all the chronic diseases that result from bad working conditions, lol.

I would recommend a Logitech G13 in addition to whatever keyboard you currently have. It's fully customizable and is much more ergonomic than a regular keyboard. For example, the keys are aligned vertically (unlike W and S for example which aren't, on a regular keyboard).

If you're also looking for a general purpose keyboard than the Logitech G213 is very nice and not that expensive. I still love mine.

And no, I'm not a fanboy of Logitech or model numbers that end with "13".

and you won't :( There is a lot of brands that are only in USA, or if you find them in Europe they are severely overpriced. It seems that (at least in my country) either you pay a lot for corsair and razer or you jump directl to chiense brands. There is no middle point.

Never tried mechanical i just heard it's more precise and comfy. I could get this for mechanical aspect of Corsair which is membrane but Corsair and has extra features.

So i;m basically down to two options now:

  1. Corsair K55
  2. MODECOM VOLCANO GAMING LANPARTY

Corsair is membrane but it's Corsair and has way more features
MODECOM is well..modecom. I have 0 experience with this manufacturer and know nothing about it. It's mechanical but it's less cool and has fewer features.

Help me choooose :D

I think you should try to find somewhere to test out some mechanical keyboards so you know how the different switches feel. Or at least read up on them. The Volcano uses tactile and clicky Outemu Blue switches which you may not like.
These might help but there are probably better guides out there: 1 2

Every chinese budget mechanical keyboard (as the one you said) have blue switches and pretty much all of them have outemu.

On gearbest (And I think it's a chinese store) you can pay a little bit more for red switches, if that's your thing.

Outemu started as a budget copy of the MX Cherry but right now they are just another brand, focused on budget stuff. You'll see Cherry MX on every corsair, for instance, not in a MODECOM or a MOTORSPEED.

Tell us wich one you end up buying, plase, beecause I need one too (muahaha).

PS: Happy Caky
