Is this group a good idea?
It is, without question.
That is why I torn about it.
I like the idea to provide those who share new games, or newly discovered games, a way to say thanks to others who try.
I dislike the idea of another small group that just exchanges games.

wow, it's something very interesting! =)
I take part only in three groups on Steam (one of them is Elite One Giveaways, the other two are not-giveaway related even though we make lots of giveaways too, it's not their first purpose), but the idea is quite nice!
In fact, when making some weird giveaway (and it happens from time to time =P), I go to the steamgifts archives to see if someone had already made a giveaway of that particular game and it turned out so far that I made at least 10 "first giveaways" of non-bundled games of course =)
even if I won't apply for any group, I think it's still something very original! it's great to see you're the first one to make a giveaway of a particular game =P (I just have always limited my searches to the steamgifts archive page, though! id est, https://www.steamgifts.com/archive )

I am thinking of a problem now. A long time ago you could click "last page" in the archives, but since cg removed that function (due to performance issues, I guess), there is no practical way to find the first GAs of games that were in many bundles.

the best I can think of is to take a page number where GAs of that game are not present anymore and start a binary search.
for example:
game GAs end on page 501
you take page 600, after some tries, because you see there are no more GAs on that page.
you go to page 300: are GAs present here? if no you go to page 150, if yes you go to 450 (300+150)
... and so on until eventually you get to page 501

Now we are talking.
How to define a "shit" game? I don't mind cheap games, if they are good in their way.
Comment has been collapsed.
Cheap =/= shit.
But there are many shit asset flip games. I had to ignore many on steam and here to not see them. Also many 1 euro games with graphic from paint or about memes. There are many cheap and bad games.
There are some great RPGMaker games but there are many shit ones too.
Like there were some games that I got with some bundles long time ago and I had to use the option to delete them from my steam library and ignore them to never see them again.

The problem is you can not define a "shit game".
In the end it would be up to the group's admins. Too much room for mistakes and bad blood in my opinion.

True words.
Isn't shit -> dung -> fertiliser -> gold for a farmer?

I am pretty sure that the 100€ note is copyright protected and the dev is not allowed to use it that way.

I know this, I don't know what I was thinking yesterday ....
Thanks.

If you would consider literally all games ever put on here, you would find an underbelly of SG that many people concerned would like to keep hidden.
Let's just say that one nationality would quite heavily dominate the list.
And that is the better aspect, the not so much good one would be learning one certain infamous key extortionist and his loyal groupies also contributed heavily there, when they were not selling all "promotional" keys on Kinguin.

There are ways to abuse it, if there is no quality cut off of some kind.

are there only 100 pages of games shown in the archive?

i like the idea, but, as usual, not the idea of a "group".
maybe a thread like this one, with a list or table or smth... so everybody would know that, say, Oppen first shared xy game, so Oppen is a good guy, so maybe, i will not blacklist him and such... :P

Is this group a good idea?
I was gonna say no, but then I started thinking if there really was a good idea for a group. There really isn't. Make a group if you want to. As long as you have fun and like it, then what's the harm :)
It's a neat idea. If you want it to be a more exclusive group, then make it just high profile games. So either high profile Indie games or any AAA games.
If you want it to be less exclusive, then I don't really know.

I like your idea, and have some comments:
Oldest GA according to Archive, only counting those that reached at least 50+(?) people (entries)
That's penalizing people from posting the first ever GA to a decent small or even medium size group, where average votes per GA are <50. Take a look at groups that average <50 votes per GA and ask yourself "Am I ok with excluding generous gifters from this group?"
Don't count "shit" games. How to define an asset flip or otherwise shit game?
This could easily be done by requiring a certain minimum value, but at the trade off of increasing the group's eliteism. Another option if you want to avoid first ever GA games that are possibly made to be bundle trash, you could require that the game's first GA was not given Reduced Value on or before the date of Reduced Value. That information is easily verifiable with SG's own view GA and create GA pages, respectively.
Pro and con, another small elite group on SG.
Probably, but it could be bigger than you think since there's 10K+ games not including DLCs, and I bet thousands of them have been given away. So it wouldn't surprise me if you could get at least 50-100 people to join after a couple of months of promotion.

"Am I ok with excluding generous gifters from this group?"
Yes! I don't mind small gorups, I do mind users that only create giveaways for small (like 5-20 entries) groups. "Only" in this case is for me, no giveaways for big (500+) group, private (some 100 entries) or public ones. I do not mind people with a mix of small gorup GAs and other types in recent (=couple of months to a year) times.
As said above value =/= quality and it is very difficult to define "quality".
50-100 sounds like a number that I would belive.

:D
Edit: Now I feel bad I never even tried it :/ Correcting that now.

Don't ask me what my hands were thinking typing that.
Tried the game today, it is nice for a couple of minutes in between, but nothing that I will grind for a highscore.

Just another group with unique special requirements isn't a bad idea and pretty sure some people will like it as some kind of bragging rights even if there's really no other point to the group :P
I'd say make it, not like it matters much apart from the other thousands of groups out there. Nothing wrong with an extra bit of fun right?

You have some nice stuff in there, but I doubt you were the first to give the ones I've seen away. A couple of years late ;)

Don't promote my plan here. I thought you were cool ....

There is no group yet! There is no GA in this thread!
"Group for those who created the first GA on Steamgifts of a game."
I am thinking about this group for a while now, but I am not sure if there is demand for this by you SG-folks. So please let me know.
Also there is the question what qualifies as "first" GA on SG?
Pro and con, another small elite group on SG.
Please share your thoughts on this. I am grateful for all feedback.
(Edit 2): After one hour there is a clear trend of the votes. I will be offline for 18-ish hours or so, let's see which further issues you point out.
(Edit 3): Seems it would be a major problem to set a quality cut off to avoid "shit games". Even then, how to define a "shit game". It also seems that the archive is limited to 100 pages, so there is no (easy) way to identify who gave away the first copy of a game with lot of giveaways.
Due to these two problems, I tend to not create the group right now. If I ever have a lot of spare time, I might tackle the idea again.
Have a nice day.
