Seriously? this is 73% off, are you going to wait just because of 2%?! (2% = 10 cent)

If it's -75% on GMG or GamersGate (I have the 20% discount), it'd be just 0,80€. I'm also a (poor) student.

Regardless of how poor you are, I'm sure you could save up 0,23€ in some way. IF, of course you're not living on the existence-minimum and have all costs dragged down to the absolute minimum (which is impossible, because you have internet). I understand how you think however, and I would probably think the same if I didn't want the game that much.

I have nothing but respect for someone waiting for 75% off and wanting to use a discount on top of that. I do the same thing, myself. It allows for not only some of the best prices, but for that money saved to be used on later games. It is the proper way to go about building a game collection.

You and him have a point, but we are talking about 0,23€ here, I don't know what kind of long term collection you are speaking of where you would do extreme savings on saving 0,23€ per purchase. 0,23€ here or there, I don't see why it matters. It does of course matter if you barely want the game, then you can wait until teh game is old enough to be freeware.

I actually don't see why it matters so much to you. If he wants to save the money, let him save the money. If you aim for less than 75% off a good base price, then you are just throwing out money. I buy games pretty much everyday, but only at great prices most of the time. Sometimes I let myself get something brand new or overpriced, but most of the time I save money where I can so that I can buy as many games as possible. I actually run out of money that I have for games sometimes, so I know that I am getting as many games as possible if I save as much as possible. I get many more games than I would if I purchased at less than what is an optimal price.

Why do you think people think less of a game because they want to save a certain amount of money when they buy it? Some of the games I want most in this world I don't own because I can't afford to pay for them and still have money left for other games. These are digital goods, so they don't have a cost to manufacture individually. They pay a fee to sell them, based off from a percentage of the sale. Basically they can go as low as they want to and never really lose out. Many games make back all their costs within the first few weeks. After that, it is just profit. This allows them to have major sales and it allows their prices to go lower than physical goods could.

I think it is a much better idea to wait for these price drops and actually have more money available, than it is to always jump at things or tell someone else they should. If you want the game, get it at the price you want to pay for it, but don't judge others for waiting. He might value the game more than you, but also value his money at the same time.

I would understand if we were talking about something over 1 euro here, but it's 0,32 euro here. The only "problem" I have with this is how I don't understand how someone would pass this deal off, just because they want to save another 0,32 euro. 0,32 euro, what can you get with that? A DLC? Maybe, or barely. I already own the game, and I bought it full price, because I valued the game at that. It was cheap then, it's even more cheap now. You can't really value the game higly if you're passing on the deal because you want to save another 0,32 euro. You must be EXTREMELY cheap if you want this game that badly, but can't afford to "waste" 0,32. I realise when writing this that it might be around half a euro you're savnig or whatever, it's still under a buck god damn it! Seriously!

It isn't about one game, it is about all games. If you bought all games at 66% off, you would have less games with the same amount of money. He will be able to take that money and the money from other 75% off games and be able to purchase more games in the future.

Imagine you only had $100 to spend. Would you buy 2 $50 games? How about 5 $20 games? I would get 20 $5 games that were priced down from $20, that may have once been $50. If I could use 20% off, I would get even more games. I would end up with 25 games.

You don't have to save the money, but don't pick on someone for choosing to do so. These days, many people aim for 75% off or better. I respect it more than trying to peer pressure someone into wasting their money.

BTW: Me. and You.

I do see where you are coming from, but let him have his 75% off.

I understand where you're coming from, but the difference here is like buying buying 20 games for $5 or 19 for $5.26.

But yeah, to each their own, and I'm not trying to get anyone to waste their money.

When you don't have a lot of money, every cent counts. I would never pick on someone for wanting to save as much as possible. It may be a few cents, but it is a few cents saved. If someone took up the 66% off attitude, they would lose out on a lot of money over time. That is if they bought many games.

If you only buy a few games, have as much money as you need, and/or don't care about sales, it is different. I get that. Lets put it this way, I have had months where I have hit 75% off sales with discounts on top of that and I have actually not been able to get everything I wanted. I actually would run out of extra spending money. If I had done it all at 66% off, I would have less games.

I think each person has to determine their own spending habits. He chose 75% off, just like myself. It doesn't mean every single time, but it is good to manage your spending as best you can. If you have extra money for games, you can choose how to spend it.

Sure, I could maybe get one refined metal in TF2 for 0,32 bucks. But if I want the game, as in I want to play it soon, and not hope for a sale within the next coming months. I wouldn't care for those 0,32€. In my opinion you're going off topic talking about other games and other savings. Not going for this because you want the game to go above 75% off when you can have it for 73% off today, then I think you should reconsider how much you want this game. I rarely buy games nowadays, I used to buy shitloads of games all the time, it's just a matter of critizising every game you see. To the good and bad, to save money. That way, you will not buy many games, which means you will most likely miss out on some really good games, but you will also never play a bad game, because you critizised the game so hard before clicking that green buy button, you know that you will enjoy the game. This does of course not apply all the time but, it works well for me, and my buying addiction is now extremely good. (the only thing I buy regularely, and spend "lots" of money on, are humble bundles, and not other bundles, and only if the games interest me somewhat. I spent 70,36$ on the ongoing Double Fine bundle. I gave 70 to charity and split the rest. The reason why I like to buy humble bundles is that I like to support charity). To save lots of money, I would do this, aswell as try to make sure I have a game which I can play a lot (multiplayer games... TF2 works wounders)

Just to note. This particular subthread is about Desidiosus, not you. He said he doesn't want to buy it, until it is 75% off. 75% off at GreenManGaming still has the 20% off coupon. it is a little weird that you added the extra % off for your 66% off, but you couldn't point out that for the 75% off. I guess it didn't make your comparison look as nice.

I've stayed on topic the whole time, stating that some people are like Desidiosus. You are the one that feels the need to share your charity story.

I like sharing stories. Regardless if I add that extra 20% (which is completely irrelevant) it still is a majorly small saving that is under a buck. If we were talking of a 50 buck game, it would be different. This whole "75% off" thing is just a forced thought that's gotten a bit too far in this situation.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Really? Lets say you had $100 and all games were priced at this games level.

You could buy 74 games at your current price, or 100 games at the price Desidiosus is waiting for.

How is it different? You just want this game so bad that you can't help but to place a higher value on it. Who is to say it has that value to everyone. I'd rather have the 100 games. Then I get the games of value and other games, without spending more money. True savings.

You're dragging this WAY too far! I've said this FAR TOO MANY TIMES: ADAPT THIS PRICE CRAP TO THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION! In this case, you SAVE UNDER A DOLLAR IN PRICE DIFFERANCE! I understand how you/others think, but it's EXTREMELY silly! I better stop discussing this with you, becuase the only thing I'm doing is repeating what I said before a million times over and over again.

Yet, it doesn't make it right. Please keep repeating and use more caps. Maybe someone will adapt to your tactics. To each their own is the point I have been trying to make. Your point is we have to adapt to yours, for this game. You are the one that is wrong. You shouldn't try to force people to buy at your price level, if they don't want to.

I don't see how our achievments matter. And you have spent far more time then I have on that game. You're being quite defensive, or just cheap, or both. I'm talking about this game in particular as I said before, if you want to save the same % in a more expensive game, where the saving is over a buck atleast, then yes i do fully agree on that you could happily wait for a bigger sale. But if you really want this game, I doubt you would want to wait much longer just to save 0,32 euro. As Toboty just said, you could find that kind of money differance on the street. You're sounding like you're trying to save up to buy the white house with working as a farmer. " If I save 0,01 euro per every buy i do, I might be able to buy a car one day!". It's honestly silly. And as I've said three times now, I'm only talking about the saving you do in this particular case. You would have to adapt in my opinion, and no just "no, I need to save 0,32 euro. Why? I don't know, I just have to." Percentages matter less when it's a percentage of a extremely small amount.

Permalink

Hahahaha. I was actually pointing that out to show that I understood your side because I paid a higher price for the game, too. You then called me defensive and cheap for trying to show that I understood your side on buying the game. Way to attack someone for trying to see things from both sides.

Percentages never matter less because they add up over time. One game here, one game there and suddenly it isn't cents. He is free to purchase it how he wants to. I'm just trying to show him some support.

Many people on here prefer 75% off or they won't buy. Live with it.

I was presuming you were completely on the side of "you have to save money bla bla". See my other reply, and I still think this is silly. and I think you (anyone, not you in particular) should adapt the whole "must be 75% off or more" thing to every game you take down. Because, it getts silly when it's a matter of 0,32 euro. It gets so silly it's even more silly we're having this discussion. I'm not going to point out at fourth time that I was only trying to discuss the saving on this particular game.

Actually, there is nothing silly here, at least from my side. Many people on this site wait for good sales so they don't waste their money. Some have more money than others and they don't have to wait. People are free to determine each sale for themselves. The only thing silly this whole time is that you feel the need to look down on Desidiosus for wanting to save his money.

You can point it out 5 times, for all I care. I will always have the back of anyone that wants to save money. In fact, point it out six, if you wish.

He can save as much money as he wants to save. He has many games, I assume he knows what he wants when he goes to purchase things. If he wants 75% off, he can have 75% off. You were the one who chose to try to pressure him to buy it. I say let him save the money if he wants to save the money. He can use his savings over time to buy more games. I don't think he is going to buy the White house or a car, but you never know. I mean you took the time to point those things out, so I'm assuming that you think anyone who saves up must be saving big. I think that simply having the money available for other games is a good thing, if that is what you want.

Figures as much that it would actually go on sale after I buy it with a 50% off coupon on Steam. But then can't ever get GMG to accept my debit card, credit card, or Paypal.

But yeah, not a hard game other than the fact that I can't score above about 7.7 million still.

Is it that payment failed, gambling website message?

I wrote about that, here. It is a long post, but it covers everything they will make you go through to fix it. With the knowledge, you can probably skip a few steps. Basically their security system blocks people that have IPs change all the time, if you use a VPN or a proxy, or if you are from a certain area. You can get them to turn it off on their end and unlock your account. The security is to prevent you from buying the wrong version of the game, according to them. They want to always know where you are to feed you the right version of the game. It is very annoying.

Yeah, first time I tried to make a purchase and did it with multiple payment options and just gave up because I know my bank isn't going to block purchases for some random game site.

Thing is, I don't use a VPN or proxy and my IP doesn't change any more often than anyone else in the US with a largish cable provider.

And personally, if a site is going to make me go through that much trouble to give them money, then I'm not going to bother with them. I'll wait for a sale on Steam, Amazon, or Gamersgate or the game to be bundled.

Played it on my phone, it was fun but it got boring and it's not the most engaging puzzle game I've played. It's good, and for the price it's good, but yeah I'd prefer a game like this on my phone over Steam. But choices and variety is indeed a grand thing.
