I've heard it sells well overseas.

To be honest I think its a good idea, as its so hard to come between iPhone/Android battle here in the US.

I've been watching RIM, Nokia, and Microsoft flounder at making a competitive OS for years now.

Nokia uses Android as well, as far as I know.

iPhone is it's own thing, Android is an operating system.

edit: nope, I was wrong they still only use Windows Phone... well no wonder MS got them. :P

You were right, although probably accidentally. Nokia did make one Android phone that I know of. It was under another company's name, and it was a luxury model.

...or not. Nokia sold the other company before this happened. In any case: http://bgr.com/2013/02/12/vertu-ti-10000-dollar-android-phone-325634/

Well GLAD0S98 I really hope they do.
WP is a good OS and Nokia always made good & solid phones. Besides that, I still believe there is plenty of space on this market for more than 2 OSs.
Not to mention that competition is good for all.
Other than that, I only had Nokia phones (with 1 exception) in the last 10 years so I really don't want it going the Palm/RIM way.

I'm also from Finland and this was the right (only) move from Nokia. To be honest the company died the same day Apple released first iPhone, Nokia had invested heavily in Symbian and couldn't let go of the crappy OS until it was too late. Maybe if they jumped on the Google wagon instead of MS they could have avoided this.

I'm against iOS and I have a particular hatred of Android for no particular reason other than it's more Google trying to shove itself down our throats, and I've only had Nokia phones, so this makes me happy. That said, I hope this deal means Microsoft will keep its shitty Metro UI on its phones and tablets and leave the PCs alone.

They already have infected the PCs with it. It's now called "Modern" and is incorporated into Windows 8.

My every cellphone has been a Nokia.
My first was a 3330, pretty good, came with a soundtrack maker back when soundtracks couldn't be imported from PC/the net.
Then came a 7210, was pretty nice but died soon after I bought it; a couple years after I had it fixed, it decided it couldn't read my sim any longer.
I replaced it with a 7250i, probably the best cellphone I've ever had.
In my foolishness, I decided to buy a X3-02.5 Touch-And-Type and I've regretted it ever since month two. As a testament for Nokia cellphones' trademark sturdiness, it lost its key lock button not even three month after purchase.
Some friends have advised me to get a Lumia but I don't want anything to do with Windows Phone... and now, this.
My next one is going to be a Samsung or Sony. Nokia is dead to me.

The "merger" is pretty good though, now Nokia might regain it's status as market leader in the phone business, like it once had.

I was hoping Nokia would make an interesting smartphone and bring it to America. Now neither of these things would happen.

Nokia failed to innovate because they feared Samsung. Now Samsung is the only smartphone maker (soon to be followed by Apple) which puts all its flagship phones on all the national carriers.

I wish I could have had a Nokia phone one day, but I suppose I'm okay being "stuck" with Samsung, as long as I can unlock the thing and put a custom ROM on it.
