This used to be a "what phone should I buy", but I didn't want to make a new one so I repurposed this one.

Bought the Nexus 5X today, was very happy with the phone. Felt great in the hand and the Nougat android looked fucking amazing. It installed the update with no problems. 3 or 4 hours of small use later and it froze for a second and started to restart itself, and then just turned off completely. Charging it does nothing. Power button + volume etc don't work, tried all combinations for 10/30/60 seconds. When charging, the red LED is supposed to light up but it doesn't.

Bricked phone?

Also, when I came to the store and asked if they have a 5X, the first guy said that they don't, and the second guy said "we have THAT one". He didn't emphasize the "that" but it implies that something is wrong with it, but I didn't think much of it. The seal on the box was broken, but I figured hey that's just what they do to insert the warranty papers. Also, when I got it it was at 0% battery and wouldn't turn on at all, had to charge it to turn it on - which again, implies, that it has been used.

Going there Monday to review my options.

Get your money back and buy a sealed product from somewhere else.

Went to another store yesterday and they didn't have any 5Xes, only quartz blue (ugly color) 32 GB (out of budget)

A bit hard to say but looks like your battery died.
So, the phone is not bricked.

Do you bought a new or used phone?
Anyway, try to get your money back.

Well, I bought it as new at a provider. Nobody told me it's refurbished, been repaired, or that it's not brand new.

I don't know about N5X but at least Nexus 4 shows a little open padlock on the screen Google's logo when it's booting
if the bootloader is unlocked. If your phone shows it, so it's already used.

Maybe you remember the booting screen.

Tried everything that I can do without a type-a to type-c USB cable. (Can't connect it to PC)

I read that someone let it "cool" overnight and then charged it tomorrow and it worked fine. I'm optimistic I guess. Still going to send it back for repairs/replacement, don't want this happening again.

So you can't start it at all?

not even download mode or recovery

Edit: my bad didn't read your description, if doesn't start maybe other battery could help you

The battery can not be taken out, so I can't replace it myself. =(

I'll bring it Monday to get it replaced or repaired but I'm not very optimistic. Mostly because of all the horror stories I read online. Which is a shame because the camera (even the front facing) is seriously amazing, and the phone just feels great to use!

There is a difference between the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 5X. Also, do you care to elaborate on your statement?

I bought two. Both got explosive batteries, I asked for a compensation and the gave me refurbished phones. I get 5 phones in total from the RMA. Then I asked to get my money back, they told me already sent too much refurbished phones and they won't give me more. All that happens in less than a year, so yeah, the phone is cool, but I got really bad luck with the batteries and RMA.

Damn man.

Is there any way to know if a phone is refurbished, other than the broken seal perhaps?

The ones that Google sent me actually said refurbished when I likes my Gmail account to it. Don't know if there is other way.

I linked my account to it and it didn't notify me about it being refurbished, or anything out of the ordinary.

go into recovery and try to wipe dalvik, if it does not work you could try to factory reset the phone from the recovery

I can't. I can't do anything. The phone DOES NOT power on. It doesn't go into the recovery mode, it doesn't do anything. Holding all the buttons, just the power button, power + volume down and nothing works. Tried to charge it, the LED doesn't come on that should notify me that the phone is charging, and after it being plugged in for about 20-30 minutes, still won't come on. The phone is giving NO signs of life, whatsoever.

My phone randomly died a few days ago. Removing the battery and putting it back in worked for me.
