hi guys, so, in the last couple of days i've had the song a little party never killed nobody stuck in my head, i like the style but can't stand the "dubstep" and rap parts, anyone know of songs/albums/artists that do that kind of thing? upbeat music with a jazzy 20s feeling?

Caravan Palace?
Clicky

The genre would be "Swingtronica", which is not really the same, but the closest I can think of.
EDIT: OR "Electro Swing", apparently.
EDIT2: Just gonna add on some more stuff as I find it:

Waldeck

Cissie Redgwick does similar stuff. One of her songs is used in the trailer for Contrast which is out this week, which you should also check out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FALYmqt-7TQ. Edit: And one of the contrast trailers with a different song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yRjPM90XfI

It is a really catchy tune :) I can't wait to get my hands on Contrast this week as got my interest in this kind of music a few weeks back. Also check out Alice Francis songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnFhlsCuL5g Edit: The song in the Contrast trailer, I can't remember who sung it off hand, but I think the Developers Commentary for the game mentions it when they are talking about the songs they used.

It's interesting that this style of music seems to re-surface with modern artists every 15-20 years.

For my younger days it was with The Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and Squirrel Nut Zippers, along with a few others. Those two being the biggest. SNZ was (maybe still is?) a great show, too.

If you really want to go back to the 20's, the internet will turn up a bunch of stuff with a search. To the best of my memory (music from the 20's and 30's was still occasionally heard when I was a kid), supplemented with some digging, here is what I can tell you.

The early twenties were still fairly moderate in tempo, similar to that of Ragtime. Last Night On the Back Porch
By the mid twenties, once the effects of The Great War had dissipated, a faster tempo became more prevalent. If You Knew Susie
By the late twenties, you had the precursors to Swing and "big band" music in place. That's A Plenty

The Lindy Hop, along with other forms of Swing, made a huge impact on the music of the 30's and 40's. Older styles of music were still around, but Swing dominated the scene among young adults, especially after WWII.
