I would have liked to have seen less repeat sales and some more obscure indie titles get a bigger discount...

I agree and I think anyone who says otherwise needs to really look at what was on sale. It is full of repeats when encore day should be where most of the repeats are. There has been very little diversity of genres offered as well, with many not even getting an option in community choice to have a chance to lose out, and many more losing and not getting a flash sale for the item. And even among the genres offered, it was only the most popular stuff. And even many times when one title in a series or by a certain dev went on sale, others did not.

And I actually am beginning to suspect that encore day isn't happening, or else unlike past years the stuff not up for encore day is remaining on sale for normal sale price until then (which would be a refreshing change if encore day must happen, I personally don't care for encore day since it's all repeats).

Well to me it was boring till they put up the Rollercoaster Tycoon games on Steam (1 and 2 with expansions intact) then everything went well. Heck for the first time today I had my first foil badge and thank goodness they only level once instead of five times like the regular ones.

I loved this sale so far! Got over half of my wishlist to disappear! :D My budget was $30 for this whole sale, but, I upped it to $50. Which is usually a lot for me as I cannot afford much. But, anyways I ended up with these:

  • Folk Tale (my #1 choice)
  • Brothers: Tale of Two Sons
  • Lyne (bought a few for friends too)
  • Assassin's Creed III
  • Assassin's Creed
  • Assassin's Creed II
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations
  • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
  • Assassin's Creed Liberation
  • RPG Maker VX Ace

I think I did well. :D I ended up gaining about Steam Levels and got these games, which when they were all on sale ended up around $80... Not on sale they would've been up much higher. I sold some trading cards (my summer adventure ones) and ended up trading keys for a few.

How'd I do? I never played any of the above so I was looking forward to them. I was hoping to get The Dust and Dawn of Discovery, but, it didn't go on sale! Maybe later :).

Why the hell would you EVER buy AC games on Steam? Or any Ubisoft game newer than AC 2 for that matter(unless it's Call of Juarez Gunslinger)? I really don't get you people. You actually hate UPlay that much, you'd rather be playing the game with two client overlays opened at the same time? FUCKING SERIOUSLY???? I bought Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon thinking that since on UPlay it's sold only in package with call of Juarez Gunslinger, that it will have the same properties as it. Namely, its Steam version would apply to the same rules as CoJ Gunslinger(which as far as I can tell is the only Ubisoft game newer than AC 2 which doesn't require activation on UPlay when installed from Steam). Boy, oh boy was I ever pissed when I installed it and saw that it needs UPlay to be played on Steam. I very much regret buying it now... But you bought those games knowing full well what to expect :|.

I so agree with this. It's one of the few series that if I'm going to buy it, will be on console since console doesn't require extra DRM and has achievements to boot.

Perhaps they bought it on Steam because they already had credit on Steam. That would be my reason, had I purchased AC. I'm still behind in the series, so I see no reason to get the 4 when I've yet to start 3.

I started with AC3 and people told me to start at the beginning. I loved AC3 the first few hours so I decided to go back to the beginning. If I don't like them my brother already does. It used up the last of my Steam Wallet credit my dad gave me a bit ago. :). I plan on enjoying these!

Assassin's Creed removes me from my comfort zone. I love god games and city builders.

And another reason I used Steam was the fact I don't have consoles :)

Seriously? Why are you raging? He bought them because they were on sale on steam, also many of us have credit, shit I made 25 bucks so far from cards....in the last week.

Exactly! I had a set budget. Got ACIII because I love American history. Loved it a great deal and Reddit suggested I try them all. Did key trades to save a few bucks on top of sales. I also don't have a console so PC is the best way for me. Steam Screenshots works in game so that makes me happy! uPlay never gave me a problem.

They most likely bought it because they wanted to play it. Seems like a pefrectly fine reason to me.
Thought I have to partly agree.
I bought AC 1 + 2 this sale as well and I was pissed off when I found out I needed a Uplay account. But it's either suck it up or not play the game at all, so sadly we have to choose the lesser of two evils here :/

75% off CSGO wont happen this sale. Its already been a daily at 50%, so it wont go lower than that this sale. There is a big CSGO event in August (ESL One Cologne) and I expect it to see another sale around then.

I agree that the sale has been lackluster. I've said it in other places that while I feel that there's been some good deals on certain games that I either already own or didn't want, for the most part I've been disappointed almost every single day. Heck, my best get was when I traded a key for Valiant Hearts and luckily redeemed it before the region lock and that wasn't even part of the sale proper. I also have felt the pain of community choices losing, most notably the one where Double Dragon Neon and Strider were both in the same group and again on the next day when the group that included Ikaruga was defeated. I'm still possibly going to pick up all 3 of those Monday morning after the last Flash deals are revealed. In comparison to last summer, I purchased at least one daily deal on 8/10 of the 10 days last year. This year I've only gotten 2 (Battleblock Theatre and RE4).

I also was surprised that there have been quite a few games I noticed that have been cheaper in sales past. Something felt off about this Steam sale and I consider it the worst out of the ones I've participated in. Here's hoping winter is much better, or at the very least the last few batches of Flash/Community Choices tonight and tomorrow are better.

I'm bummed out that a lot of what I would have grabbed ended up being in losing Community Choices.. Ikaruga, Teslagrad, DLC Quest, Double Dragon Neon, Strider, Quake 3 Arena, Teleglitch, Banner Saga.. all of those were approved to go on 75% sales or about by the developers but they didn't happen. The worst of it is most of the winning counterparts were games that were repeats of Daily or Flash sales, none of the losers I wanted appeared in Flash sales. Sucky sale for me.

it was a decent sale for me, got a bunch of things I didn't have and have already enjoyed to some degree. I'm just unhappy one of the games I wanted to have come up on a better discount lost a community vote. I guess there's still tomorrow's flash deals.

I've trimmed down my wishlist by 20 some-odd games / software, and trimmed my wallet down by about $350 this sale. That's about 3x as much as I've spent on any previous sale. Plus, I've had the Allegorithmic Substance Indie Pack on my wishlist since it was added to steam, waiting for a good deal. Finally picked it up for $125 instead of $250. I'd say that's a good deal (considering I didn't just buy it as a random deal and actually know what it is, what it's for, and it's been on my wishlist).

But that's just for 1 game, and Magic has a lot of DLC so it makes sense to create as much of an install base for the game as they can. Actually, didn't Battlefront 2 or Kotor get a flash sale of some kind?

This sale is boring because it is not fun to purchase like it used to be.

Now, I am buying games strictly because I want to play them. This is no different than any other day on Steam, GMG, Amazon, etc.

Back when Steam had real holiday events, I bought several games due to the Steam Event. In the past events, you not only got points for buying a game but also for completing achievements in those games. Kind of like PlayFire. Now, it's all about crafting dumb ass badges. Moreover, the items you can win via crafting suck this year too just like in the winter. (Look at that ugly Towering Pillar of Summer Shades).

So yes, this sale is boring.

This was my pain LAST summer sale.

SFIV Super Arcade showed up as a community choice one time and it lost the vote and I waited the entire sale for it. It never happened. I finally got it a few weeks later.

You may want to have a look around places like Steamtrades and see what sellers are asking for it. You may be able to find a deal.

Meh, the games I wanted to buy had really crappy discounts (seriously, 12% for a visual novel?). At the end of the sale, I only spent $20, and I'm glad this time I managed to resist the temptation. Hope things are far better in the Winter sale, but this Summer... well, sucked so hard...

Comment has been collapsed.

That's funny. I spent about $20 and thought it was a really good sale. There were two games that weren't cut as deeply as the Winter Sale (and so I passed on them for the time being), but I thought it was a solid sale.

I think people get disappointed when games hit their bottom price, and people want them to get even cheaper.
