Weird, I'm on the same CPU (OC'd at 3700) and a 1gb 7790 which is a tiny bit below the 7850 in most ways and I'm about the same fps as you, but I don't think I've once seen it drop down to 10-15. What resolution are you running at? 1440x900 here which I'm guessing is much lower than you.

Try updating gpu drivers if you haven't already, done miracles to me. (from 13.4 to 13.9 resulted in additional 15-20 fps and no low dips)

Ok guys, let's all go buy NVIDIA Titans right now. Apparently we can afford them whenever a game demands it.

fx8320 + hd7870, runs AC4 fine (40+ mostly, never dips below 30) with almost everything maxed (shadows very high, SSAA) and looks amazing. Better than almost anything I've played this year, Crysis 3 aside. Sure they could have done better job (utilizing 2 cores in 2013, really?), but it's no tragedy. Older rigs also seem to run it well on lower settings. Optimization is surely better than ACIII, which was near unplayable on my pc.

Also, I don't understand the trend of bashing ubisoft for 8-core optimization for Watch Dogs. 8 cores, guys. It's an optimization done right, not wrong. A game with lots of physics, realistic NPC movement, lots of pedestrians, great weather system and this much interaction has to make use of CPU, the more cores the better.

Funny enough, I was going to buy it based on how good it was optimized.I guess they won't see my money anymore.

I'm quite annoyed now. How can a huge company like Ubisoft be so lazy and careless with their AAA titles? Hopefully it's not as bad as it's made out to be, but as of now I'm not optimistic.

isnt that obvious? because they dont sell much on pc. their main income happens on the consoles, so this is obviously their main focus. cant blame them for that, in the end they are a company and have to earn money. there are many pc gamers who just pirate every single player game, because it's so easy to do. remember why crytek said they would never ever again release a pc-only title? they made the graphically most impressive game for that time (and the following years), combined with solid gameplay, and got 90% reviews left and right - and sold only like 100000 copies in the first months! everybody was playing crysis, but not very many bought it. so i can really understand that they developed for consoles after that. and the same goes for other titles like AC4. if they sell 5 or 10 times as many copies on the consoles, as they do on pc, then it's just logical, that they focus on the consoles mainly. optimizing the pc version has no priority. if they first released the game on consoles and started optimizing it for pc later and released it later, you would also complain, i guess (and they would probably sell less). ^^

i dont say i agree with these decisions. i am a pc gamer and i hate playing this unoptimized crap. i have a very good pc, and i should be able to run that game with 60 fps. but i can kind of understand how this happens, at least.

Well they should charge less for the PC version then :P The same effort should be put in if the same price is being charged.

Anyways, as of now, I've put about 16 hours into the game and I can safely say that I'm having no issues whatsoever. It's running perfect for me and I honestly feel like I've gotten my money's worth. That being said, I'm aware of the numerous amounts of people experiencing serious issues such as unplayable frame rates. Even Assassin's Creed III, a game that was severely criticized for being "an un-optimised piece of crap" didn't give me any problems. Did I just get lucky twice? Or did a handful of people over exaggerate the situation :P

well, i have a i5-3570, a geforce gtx 770 and 16 gb ram. i would call this a fairly decent system. but i can't get constant 60 fps in AC4. in fact most of the time it's more like 45-50. and the vsync locks to 30 fps as soon as you go below 60. which means i can either enable vsync and play with 30 fps (and this is no real option for me), or i disable it and encounter extreme tearing. the game looks nice, but definitely not as good as battlefield 4, and that game runs with 70-100 fps for me, at ultra settings with 4x AA.

Your system is quite similar to mine then. I have an i7-2600k, an MSI GTX 770 and 8GB of ram. I'm getting around 50fps too, but I'm quite happy with that. Sure, it's not great optimization, but it's still decent performance. Even with vsync off I don't encounter screen tearing (unlike some games I've played recently). Battlefield 4 does perform significantly better and look significantly better, but it's not enough to make me grab my pitchfork and demand 20-30 more fps from Ubisoft. I'm just surprised that given the close relationship the company has with Nvidia, why Black Flag wasn't a shining example of next-gen Nvidia technology (I don't like the god rays at all).

oh, god, why he even don't care of his words. IMO, he is stupid, since he is part of ubisoft, anything he says about game, gaming industry could be quoted and used in many websites, blogs, presses. So if he doesn't care much, his words can bring negative effect on ubi and their products. He is really silly, if I were him, I wouldn't say so.

did you guys read the comments?

"Gabe Graziani : This quote is taken totally out of context. He's talking about when working in the development environment on R&D... optimization doesn't come until later. Shoddy journalism, to say the least. It's really disappointing to see this, especially after the team put so much work into the PC version.
Can't wait to see which other journalists are bad at their jobs when articles are replicated based on this one without a cited source.

Gabe Graziani : Meanwhile, you've got Rock Paper Shotgun saying this is "the best Assassin's Creed yet!"

I played ACIV and it's optimized pretty well. If it runs poor for you then consider upgrading or don't buy the game, just saying.
