Even the best card won't do anything if your game can't take advantage of it and runs like fat kid after a cake.

Hmmm. Does a fat kid run faster after cake since he really likes cake or slower since he's fat?

He would certainly get tired easier.

Actually, the CoD games are pretty well optimized. You can complain about a lot of other things about this games, but they work in PCs that other games with the same level of graphics, can handle.

If the game is poorly optimized, you may need a time machine to get a card that can run it well.

Yeah, just buy a new GPU

Because everyone on the planet can just buy another 200-300 dollar GPU so we can run your game. I don't mind upgrading after a few years, but I really hope I wouldn't have to upgrade from my GTX 660 by the end of next year. It should last me through most of 2015. But if developers are gonna have this mentality, I'm gonna have to upgrade before the end of 2014

well, as a mid-low end laptop user and someone that has already played the game I can say it is not bad except when it rains ingame, I get 25-30 fps with clear skies and 15-10 when raining, sometimes it gets to 20.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Anything below 60 FPS is unacceptable. You're playing on a PC, with a 60 Hz (or better) monitor, not a console with a 25 Hz TV.. And it would be possible, perhaps, if the game had been properly optimised, as it should have been.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm just glad I can barely run it so I don't get to be picky. oh and itis a laptop with about a year and a half so I was realy surprised it could run at all

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Age says nothing, hardware specs do. And a 1.5 year old somewhat decent lappy shouldn't have trouble playing games for a good solid year or 3/4. Again - the game lacks needed and entirely fair to expect optimisation.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And as long as that laptop uses an internal GPU it doesn't matter how well optimized it is

Permalink

It could be better, but it could be a whole lot worse too. I get around 40-60 fps with my i5 3570k and GTX 670, which isn't bad for how good the game looks

This marks UBISOFT on my list...

Bethesda did also did a poor optimization on its games, maybe because of license conflicts and deadlines.

We'll atleast the community of modders have optimized the games themselves. Hopefully this ASS SHIT 4

mod-able so we can atleast run it good. Or if not fuck to UBISOFT talk about pure laziness get flagged!

Umm.. Modders got a hold of the source code to Bethesda games? Really? I think your idea of what "optimisation" is isn't exactly right.

uh hello, bug fixes/ optimization have you ever looked at the nexus, its easy with those esp and esm...

Seems you've been living in a hole.

ONE WORD "GECK..."

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

... ? Thanks for the attempt at "correcting" me with more irrelevant drivel. No, I've not been living under a hole. I know about the Nexus, all the different mods, but I repeat - you simple lack knowledge here. "Optimisation" has nothing to do with any performance gained by what any mod can do, such as replacing textures, or assets. Optimisation is a specific part of a development process (usually the last step) done to the source code of a game to make it run better on specific hardware platforms / architecture. They basically tweak the code that builds up the game's main .exe, as well as potentially modifying the way game assets are packaged to better take advantage of potential advantages a specific platform has to other platforms. That's why I asked if modders got their hands on source code of the games. They didn't, so nothing they did had anything to do with optimisation. Period.

This isn't that big of a deal now because the new consoles are very similar to PC's architecture. That means most devs won't need to put much work into their games to make them them run well on PC.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

"Similar" - not the same. And that line of his was bullcrap. There's still enough difference to potentially cause big performance differences between platforms.

Also, console dev means dev for a known set of hardware. PC dev means far more dev time put in to proper scalability across greatly varying hardware.

Oh yea this is going to happen. Last time I checked Witcher 1+2 were the most pirated games ever. They also sold over 3 million copies a piece. That shows that even if a game is pirated doesn't mean it's not a sale. If you look at it carefully the amount of people who pirate the game (In general not those who later buy it) compared to the amount who buy it is really funny. It's not even a competition. SO many people buy the game and those who pirate it are normally people who just want to try the game out first. I know multiple people who hate DRM but enjoy the steam sales so they purchase the game on steam when it's on sale and then pirate it.

Fucking lazy ass developers!! Even if XB1 and PS4 have not that high hardware specs, their games will run laggy on a PC with similar specs (and even higher powered PCs) coz they're too lazy to optimize..And they'll rudely tell that b'coz of piracy it's not profitable to develop for PC, so we'll lazily port our game straight from console to PC and let it run like shit on even higher end PC AND tell PC guys to upgrade hardware...
And i remember ubisoft posting Watch dogs minimum specs to be quad core!!! For ultra go and buy at least octacore CPU just so that ubisoft can caress their egoistic ass and watch us PC players play on shit quality even on stronger hardware..I'M FUCKING TIRED OF YOUR SHIT UBISOFFT AND ALL THIS CONSOLE CENTERED GAMING INDUSTRY!!!!!!!

.. As an assoc. prod., he should have a way better understanding of technical details, such as what exactly optimisation is / does, and why not properly doing it for PC can and usually will result in a horribly shitty performance delta. He makes budgeting decisions that affect development cycles ffs!

btw, a puny 5750 Can run it on all high with FXAA, then all lighting shenanigans at off and still averaging at 22.
Quite an improvement compared to ACIII

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

  1. On lower-end hardware, FXAA shouldn't be turned on, especially if gaming at anything above 1440x900. It's a pointless resource-hog.
  2. "..all lighting shenanigans at off.." good lighting in game engines is a fairly cheap way (resource-wise) of making stuff look far better, and if you look at game engines of the past, say, 5 or 6 years, you can see that while texture detail hasn't improved tremendously, lighting in engines has, as well as looking far better for relatively less performance. It's ridiculous if you need to turn this down / off to make shit run better (shadows specifically notably being an exception).
  3. Improvement or not, that says nothing about its' quality of relative performance, empirically.

05:27 - ░▒∷ Ֆнιȵøвι ∷▒░: and also thinks it's fine to release unoptimised code that forces people to upgrade to new hardware to play a game, when they can use current hardware to run better looking / more hardware intensive games BETTER, NOW
