I'm new at this. I recently gave away my first game, but it's marked as 'No Value' in my 'sent' section and I'm not sure why? Here's the giveaway (https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/Zxd2L/the-bureau-xcom-declassified)

it was given away for free in hb, so it's 0cv to avoid exploits. (marked with **)

Darn, that's a shame. I think I got it in a Bundle, not for free, but that's good to know! I see, I couldn't find the ** before, but I figured out it comes up when creating. Thanks for answering my question!

Maybe you got it from bundle, but I got it for free.
Any game was free for some time will be no value in SG.

I'm learning that now. I get that it's to stop people scamming the system, but I also feel like almost every single game that isn't brand new has been bundled before, so will always have reduced value. I guess I will just never get a high contributor level, but that's ok, as long as someone plays and enjoys what I give away!

Before you make giveaway, you may see at right side of the game name,
If 1
, it is reduced value
If 2 *, it is no value.

Typically just keeping up with SG's deals forum is enough that, in addition to what the create-giveaway list tells you, you should be safe. However, anything that hits 95% off in US currency (which means it may be a lower reduction in another currency) gets added to the bundle list, so the occasional niche sale or regional price glitch can surprise you.

Basic diligence is typically enough to avoid surprises when posting unbundled games, but you should always be aware of the risk of a surprise bundling. Bundled games are a lot less riskier in regards to surprise devaluations, as it's usually fairly easy to cross reference if a game has had a free promotion, given the kind of publicity such events typically receive.

Focusing on the giving for the sake of giving is the best approach for avoiding stress, but it is worth noting that bundle games are discounted the way they are to compensate for going on extreme sales. As such, they'll generally more or less match to unbundled value relative to purchase cost (with newer unbundled games being less advantageous on CV and junkier bundled games being more advantageous [but wholly dissatisfying to give away] ).

It's not that difficult to gain CV. Just look for games that are on sale and give those away. That is how I got to level 10 on a shoe-string budget. Other people have reached level 10 just giving bundled stuff away, but you'd have to give many more bundled games. In general, however, the best way to gain CV is to not worry about CV. Unless you're only giving away games you've picked up for free, your CV level will continue to rise without you worrying about it.

Good advice! Unfortunately, I'm not working right now due to a chronic illness. Hopefully one day I will be in a position to be more generous, but until then I will continue to giveaway my lower value games and not worry too much about it ^_^ My dream would be to one day have enough money to do a big giveaway, but who knows where life will end up. Thanks for the advice!

My account isn't old enough for Unlucky7 and while Playing Appreciated looks really good, I really struggle to force myself to finish games that I don't enjoy (I have a sleep disorder and am often tired), so probably not right for me. I appreciate the links though, I'm learning that a lot of people give away games only to whitelist, which is a pretty strange and new system for me!

Same thing happened to me, but the game was not worth as much CV.
