I was interested in the ToD ticket for a trade but the guy said it wasn't tradeable for him. Unless I'm crazy they are supposed to be tradeable? Maybe it is a glitch, what do you guys think?

EDIT: Seems the answer is in fact from a holiday thing called the Gift-Stuffed Stocking:

"When used the owner will receive a Giftapult, a Backpack Expander, a Name Tag, a Description Tag, a Tour of Duty Ticket, as well as two to three random weapons with a small chance of receiving a random cosmetic, taunt, or Enchantment: Eternaween item instead of a weapon. All of the gifts obtained are not tradable."

Another question that is raised is why do you think they would make it untradeable? To prevent people from not using it themselves so they will be more likely to play tf2?

EDIT 2: Great points guys. The market would have been flooded from bots getting them free and decreasing the value. It also makes it so that person has to play TF2 to use it and they would need to buy more which makes Valve many instead of the opposite if it wasn't tradeable.

I can't remember exactly. But Steam/TF2 had some promotion of some sort and people got Tour of Duty tickets for free; I even have one myself in my inventory.

And it's not tradeable as well?

Mystic Aargg said what the promotion is, and no it is not tradable. If it was, then it's market value would've significantly decreased.

Good point that the value would have gone down.

All items bought in the Steam market are not tradable for 7 days.

The guy said he had it for a while and it also should have the "not tradeable until ___" text.

Ok the poll was unnecessary, but does anyone know why it's like this or had this happen to them before?

For Christmas and I think Halloween as well, you get Name Tags, Description Tags and Tour of Duty tickets that are not tradeable or marketable.

Thanks this may be the answer then. Is it not tradeable to avoid people letting someone else use it and instead to get them to play TF2 and use it themselves?

That and to avoid a market flooding of them. Any account that logs on during the holidays receives a pack for that year and gets the gifts. Imagine the amount of bots on steam, all claiming those and selling the items on the marketplace.

It's also a Gift to the players, as a thank you for supporting the "free" version of Hat Fortress 2. You can't win anything with one ticket so you have to buy or trade for more ya know...

Thanks for the answer. Very good point it would have turned out as bad as the gems incident and it would have been entirely Valve's fault.

Nice profile picture :)

I can still trade mine. Since there isn't any suitable choice in the poll for that situation, I won't vote anything. :P

I wish I could edit the poll after the fact as that would have been a good option.
