Alright, so, I'm going to buy Far Cry 3. My question is, should I be getting it on Steam, or Uplay? I know the Steam Store says it requires Uplay, so should I just get it on there and avoid the middleman, so to speak?

A little Thanks

You're screwed by uplay either way so just get it whichever way is cheaper.

Might be better, though I'd buy it on Steam as a protest on Uplay, it's a pointless service, whenever my internet crashed for a few moments it kept pausing my game to try to reconnect.
Seriously, if your internet connection is by any way slightly unstable, don't bother, you'll just end up pissed.
Also, might be cheaper on steam, maybe not, I dunno, didn't check in Uplay.

Ofc steam version! Game will be launced by Steam and you don't need to start it with crappy Uplay

Yup. Even if you launch it through steam, it will launch through Uplay as well.

Thats why I buy Uplay games on Uplay, usually cheaper to get the Uplay code over the steam code. No point really getting on steam unless its cheaper :-D!

Even though the stories don't relate you should play them in order, at least play 2 before 3, its not exactly easy to transition back to 2 after 3....not to say 2 is a bad game.

Make sure to use this, the patrols are annoying without it.

If its to brown use this or this, I used the second one personally, you might not mind all the brown though....some people have issues with the mods it seems, never had one myself.

Thanks for the tips. I've only played the first game ages ago. I'm gonna play them in Order.

Most appreciated for the tips as well. I'll be using those mods in those Far Cry games I bought today too :D

Well, for games like Far Cry 3 (and Watch_Dogs, and probably the more recent Ubisoft games though I don't know firsthand), achievements are on Uplay and not Steam, and they don't have Steam Trading Cards. And even if you buy it on Steam, to run it, you would need to install Uplay if you hadn't already. That said, I bought it on Steam myself... not a big fan of Uplay, tbh.

I tried to collect my games on as few platforms as possible, thus so far I only used Steam and GOG, it's easier for me to manage. But I recently accidentally bought a Deluxe Edition Far Cry on the last encore of GMG, only to realize that its a UPlay key after the purchase.

Still can't made up my mind whether to activate it or not. Is UPlay "inside" steam really that bad?

No, it's not that bad at all. To be honest i really enjoy some of the features like the uplay reward system. You can collect points with achievements and redeem them to get in-game stuffs.

So, this UPlay reward system is active even if I launch a Steam purchased game--along with Steam's own reward system such as trading cards and achievements? This will weigh my decision more to Steam versions of Ubisoft's games.

And performance-wise, if I launch a UPlay game from Steam, I need to login to both account, right? Do I need two clients (the Steam client and the UPlay client) on at the same time? Will it effect graphic performance in a slower machine? Can I still go offline and play the game?

Steam and Uplay are both active at the same time, so you get rewards, stats, playtime, etc, for both Steam and Uplay. So yes, you would need to log on to both platforms at the same time. If you meet the requirements, it should be fine. And Uplay does have an offline mode - I don't know how good that is from firsthand experience though.

Get what ever is cheaper. Honestly though you would be better off using a non steam version since you would end up having to have both steam and Uplay running. Unless you are ok with both being up at once. ( I do that for Blood Dragon and Heroes of Might and Magic 6. I have had no problems with those games. Also have had no problems with Farcry 3. I picked that one up when it was on sale on.. either Amazon or GMG can not remember.. lol... and they gave me a Uplay key and not a steamkey. )

Regardless it is a good game. Personally I do not see what people hate about Uplay soo much as so far yet to have an issue with it. A lot like steam, just the achievements you gain are worth something since you can get extra stuff in game and outside of it. ( At least with the games I have on Uplay. Keep in mind I only have two others not mentioned here and I have not played them.. those two being Silent Hunter and one of the Prince of Persia games that I got for free at some point. )
