Yup. I haven't played a sonic game pretty much since...Sonic & Knuckles. Or at least, didn't play a good one since.

Is this one worth it? or at least, decent enough for 5$ or so?

But yes, I recommend Sonic Generations to classic and modern Sonic fans, it'll satisfy both of you.
