Did you saw the preview articles from RPS, Jonex? They should help with your decision, I think.

Still on XP? Wow. I mean, it's a nice OS and all, but it's like 10 years old.

Replayed StarCraft just before the second one came out, did the same thing with Diablo 2 before the third one arrived; all on my Windows 7 PC. Everything went fine :)

only games that i wanted to play so far and cant run on win xp are war of roses and just cause 2. It may be 10 year old, but microsoft products have tendency to be... unpolished for few years after release. That said, gameplay vids of xcom are enough reason for me to update, or get ps3 ;)

I know that feeling. Some years ago, when pretty much everyone was changing to Vista, I stuck with XP 'cuz Vista couldn't run old games very well.

Yeah, yeah. Never had a really BIG problem to run old games, they just need sometimes a little tweaking and there's a bunch of good people using Win 7 and making patches or workarounds. I dig 7, feels like I'm using the XP from old days, it's stable enough :)

I'm totally pre-ordering it. I swore I'd never pre-order another game after I flushed $60 down the toilet with Max Payne 3, but the reviews and previews look good. Plus I have faith in Firaxis... and poor impulse control when it comes to game purchases.
My backlog is about to get a little bit longer.

After thinking about it long and hard I decided to preorder it.
It's kind of obvious that it won't be as good as the original X-COM games and that's sad, but on the other hand it still looks like a very enjoyable game on its own merits. The demo was extremely limited to really get a good feel for the game, but at least the gameplay seemed solid enough and that's the most important thing.
It's the same way I feel about stuff like Human Revolution: It wasn't as good as the first Deus Ex, but still better than most new games coming out so I don't hesitate to pay for it.

Totally with you, I feel the EXACT same way. Even on the use of Human Revolution as example: I did mention it when I was trying to show my reasons behind my pre-ordering of the game to a friend. It's Firaxis, anyway; let's show some faith on those guys, right? They're good developers.
On top of all that too, it's a turn-based strategy and squad-tactics game. It NEEDS to be supported, can't stand stupid and generical FPS games anymore.

I did pre order. Can't wait to play! I like demo a lot and I am a fan of classic UFO games.

As much as I want it, I'll let it pass :-/ Have some urgent stuff to take care of, and need every cent. The good thing is I have a massive backlog to keep my mind busy

So, who's getting it on day one? (I'm talking about the Firaxis' one, obviously.)
