Copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta since I'm just that lazy :D.

Hello hello and welcome all to the madness.
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.

The prize: 2x Persona 4 Golden
Note: This means I'm giving away two copies of the game and will have 2 winners.

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.

Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

Why you doing this?

I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for nearly five years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.

Why six games?

The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.

How long are you going to do this?

Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.

This event "ends" on August 7th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time. It may be hard to believe, but I don't live here. I am a real human living in a human home doing human things and in no way an alien invading learning all your weakeness.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and hopefully senpai will notice you.

I really wanted to giveaway the Quantic Dream Collection and call it the "David Cage knows Ellen Page" edition but EU prices screwed me over. Still might do it one day, but I need to figure out a work around first.

Note: If you are wondering why you don't see a giveaway running, it is because I need to wait a week for it to end on Aug 8th.
Update: Giveaway is now up!

Managed to do it again (third time), woohoo.

  1. Late Shift - achievements

Well, it's a FMV game. Not much more to tell really, the story is quite basic (although I really liked the actor playing the main role, I hope to see him in something else), maybe slightly elevated by high production values.

  1. Void Bastards - achievements

There are so many roguelike games nowadays that it is certainly easy to bump into something bad and have the enthusiasm for the whole genre spoiled by bad first impression, but I'm happy to report that Void Bastards are really good. Granted, it can get a bit repetitive near the end, but the adrenaline rush it gives is really fantastic.

  1. XCOM2 - achievements

Everyone knows what XCOM is, so I won't write a whole lot. It's good, probably better than the first game, but I have to say that somehow I still prefer its predecessor. Maybe campaign was a bit too long or maybe overall story/atmosphere wasn't doing enough for me. I probably still pick War of the Chosen someday, but I'm managing my expectations.

4 Owlboy - screenshots

Pleasant suprise. Pretty 2d metroidvania with touching, sweet story about friendship. Much better than acclaimed Iconoclasts.

5 Sherlock Holmes Devil's Daughter - achievements

This one was tedious. I like Holmes as a character but this game doesn't get anything right. There is more balancing on planks or bashing doors with an axe than solving puzzles. QTE galore, not quite my thing. Probably should have played Crimes and Punishments first, as I hear it's much better Sherlock game.

  1. The Hex - achievements

I won't say anything not to spoil fun for anyone. A lot of meta fun, if you played eariler Mullins' game Pony Island then you know what to expect. Worth playing (or experiencing), that's for sure.

I think I've played most (probably only "beaten" maybe 50%?) of the games I have from those, but I might be able to find 6 I haven't, though also several are ones that I'm not sure at what point are "beaten", haha. Would probably be worth it for a chance at P4G, though.

I'm just gonna build a list to see which potential games I have.

  1. Towerfall Ascension (played before, but never the "campaign", just MP)
  2. Valkyria Chronicles (apparently played about half an hour before getting distracted and forgetting it?)
  3. Chroma Squad (played an hour of but again, never actually finished, lol)
  4. Grim Fandango Remastered (had 2 copies from other bundles and finally activated one, but haven't tried it yet)
  5. Poly Bridge (played 4.5 hours, but only beat the first world?)
  6. Hyper Light Drifter (won quite a while ago, played 4.5 hours, but quit after finally finishing chain dash achievement and haven't ever finished, lol)

Others:

  • Titan Souls (played for a bit, but suck, so beating might be hard)
  • Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (played for half an hour)
  • Dragon's Dogma (played quite a bit, should try to finish sometime)
  • Wuppo (played 2.5 hours, but apparently didn't make it too far, only 2 achievements, might swap this with Valkyria, since that one might take too long?)
  • Rivals of Aether (played 3 hours long before it left EA, but haven't played at all since they added story modes)
  • Snake Pass (haven't played at all on Steam, played a bit on Xbox, though)

Seems like I have several others, too, with varying levels of play, haha.

EDIT: So yeah, didn't do well on 'em, lol. Got a little further in Wuppo, because I got stuck in HLD, then tried some more Polybridge, but using a controller is difficult for it (I'd want to install on a different computer and use mouse, haha). Might have been able to finish some RoA "story modes" and stuff, but eh, I'm going to be busy with Siralim: Ultimate and RoR2 1.0 in a week, so probably wouldn't play P4G too much for a while even if I did finish and get lucky, lol.

Titan Souls is such a good game. Played through it for about a week and got decent. I got all the trickshot/quickkills trophies then I tried for quite a few hours to beat the game in 20 minutes, but eventually quit when I beat it in 20 minutes and 15 seconds. Definitely a huge learning curve in that game, but I would say if you ever get too stuck and feel that what you are doing might be wrong you should probably check out how someone else has beaten it (not speedrun vids though because those are the "easy" trickshot quick kills haha.) Sometimes what you are doing might not be a viable strategy or the kill is easier than you think. I'll probably get back on it eventually and try to beat the game in under 20 minutes.

I probably won't make it in time, but nevertheless...

Game Status Comment
NAIRI: Tower of Shirin Completed Good game, however it's quite short. 3/4 of the game is extremely easy and more like a HOG. Then the last 1/4 shines, but in the end it turns out that the game is in reality only chapter 1.
Figment Completed Good game, would be great if not for some bugs/movement mechanic. Lacks a bit of polish
Metrico+ Beaten Evolution from a logical puzzle to "impossible" games' approach, where you have to find the action triggering a specific change in the level by trial and error. 👎
Override Beaten Extra easy and short campaign. Focused on multiplayer.
Dropsy Completed P&C adventure with a bizarre main character. It has it's own charm, however the graphics are a bit too pixelated for my taste
Tacoma Completed Nice sci-fi walking sim. A bit too straightforward and could use some more puzzle gates but still leaves a positive opinion

At least this will help with my backlog

Edit Seems I might be able to do it 4/6 with almost a week to go
Made it in time

Overall that was a nice set of games. I only wish I had chosen anything else than Metrico+, that one broke the strike
