What's the main component of potatoes?
People will get it or not get it. It seems I'm one of those who doesn't get it. Dunno what to get from the shape and what to do with the elements. After a couple of tries, I simply surrender. Good luck to the ones who solved it and thanks for the puztrain.

Found all the words but don't know with the others at the bottom, I used wikipedia to check on them but I'm getting nowhere, I think I will wait for the solution so I can facepalm at myself :x

Bump for solved! I'll enter the GA's tomorrow; I have already used the points but discovered this puzzle just before heading to bed, and I don't feel like moving things around right now - I need to go to sleep -; in fact, I should have been sleeping already. But it was a curious and new puzzle and got me hooked. Thanks for providing this entertaining one!

- Find all the words listed on the right;
- from the outline of the marked words, recognize the shape of the periodic table of elements;
- match each of the 5 elements below with the letter that corresponds to their spot in the table (in the order: V, D, K, M, Y);
(regarding this point: right from the start I advised to use the periodic table on the English wikipedia page as reference because there are periodic tables (i.e. the RSC one) which list attinides/lanthanides differently) - refer to the arrows for capitalization (VDKmy).
Some solvers were kind enough to share a pic of their solved puzzle, I posted them below (+ one I had prepared beforehand), have a look.

yep that's where my non scientific education let me down I guess.
I had everything else but couldn't figure out the transformation matrix from the elements to letters.
