What if instead of being able to give away any game at the beginning you instead have to first give away a ten dollar game. This can't guarantee that people wouldn't still scam after their first giveaway, but it does help make sure people aren't coming on this site to waste others time. Just an idea, let me know what you think.

A rule quiz upon registration would be a much better idea. Fail, and you have to re-register right from the very beginning of the process.

Only outcome of this idea is a whole load of $9.99 scam giveaways instead of Black Ops 2 and Far Cry 3.

At least with the big name games, most of the fakes are blatantly obvious

I'm with this, on both points.

That would be a better idea, I'm just seeing that 800 to 1000 people are wasting 60 points or so that they can't get back. I guess a quiz would help but, that wouldn't bring in more new people for the site which would mean revenue would drop from the ad sales. I don't think the owner would want to do that. I'm just saying I would rather not be duped for more points, when they could be put to use elsewhere.

No valid user is going to be put off by a short quiz on the rules. Steamgifts' reputation is built on it being a genuine giveaway site, not a bogus sham. The vast majority of users understand how it works, and for those who don't, an enforced read of the relatively brief rules will either make them better, more valuable members, or keep them away from the site entirely. Both outcomes would help to make Steamgifts an improved place.

Besides, people who don't understand how the site works are unlikely to work out what the colourful pictures at the bottom of the screen are, or how to interact with them successfully, so I don't think advertising revenue is an issue here...

When entering a giveaway I have the same mentality as if I was trading with someone. I check their rep (in this case received ratio) and if they have none I proceed with caution. In the case with Steamgifts you are not out of anything in you win a fake giveaway. It hurts, but nothing is lost except a few points that regenerate like mad at times.

And, I can't argue with this either, free games are free games I've won 3 and I couldn't be happier. I'm just trying to see if there is a way to make scamming less frequent. Me and about a hundred others it seems.
