Heard about it. It's really sad. Did he eat, drink, sleep at all, during the stream? Did he go to the toilet? I think it's kinda impossible to sit in a chair for 24 hours and just play. Anyway, my condolences to his family.

I guess sleeping would defeat whole purpose of 24hour stream?

While it's possible to avoid sleeping for 24 hours, if he was a working a lot and doing many things in general, I think he really needed to sleep. But I doubt it was just because of this stream. He probably had a heart problem or he was having an unhealthy lifestyle or both.

They said that his friend told them he did take some breaks. Even one to take his kid to soccer. I think he might have had an aneurysm when he went to smoke. Happen more often than people think.
Once happened to the assistant manager of one of the stores for the company I used to work for. Him and the manager had just closed the store and were walking to their cars when the guy just dropped dead due to one.

I don't know much about aneurysms. Was it something he had for a long time then?
Comment has been collapsed.
It could be. Sometimes they develop without anyone catching it. And then out of nowhere, they can burst. If it's in the head it can mean instant death.

Thank you, I was already checking it out. So, hmm, it's pretty much impossible to diagnose it early. :( Damn, we can die at any day without knowing why. o.O I'll tell Lucky Luke to stop smoking anyway. >_>

I wonder if twitch will consider limits to stream duration from this.
Comment has been collapsed.
Regulation tends to be extremely reactive to things like this. At the very least I'm sure guidelines will be imposed for longer sessions.
Comment has been collapsed.
Probably not. A lot of streams are owned by multiple people, or a long stream can be broken up into sessions by multiple people. Imagine how a 24-hour limit would affect AGDQ/SGDQ, for example.

If human doesn't take small steps to accomodate, then excessive amount of overstrain might result in fatal condition. If there is a person who plays 2 hours daily, then making him play for 24 hours straight might be far too much for him, while others will call it "pretty normal thing, I played XX hours longer and I'm all fine".
Still, it's not really healthy regardless how you see it. Stream can go for 24 hours, even more, but human needs rest (at least minimum). Common thing to do is inviting several people so they can switch sessions and rest in the meantime.
Sad to read it, it was probably the "playing effect" - when you're during intense gaming session then you typically ignore normal signals from your body such as eating/drinking/bathroom etc, which in long-term might result in a tragedy if those basic needs are ignored for too long. It's totally possible that he simply fell down or lost consciousness, while death was just a gigantic misfortune, as he could hit something hard with his head or anything - can't say much without more details, could be also some internal body fatal condition, e.g. kidneys from lack of bathroom.
Many different possibilities, and they're all pretty scary, this could be entirely avoided - that's why I always repeat that body always needs to accomodate and prepare to a session - if you want to organize 24h stream, then make sure that you can endure 10h, 16h and 19h one a few days prior to real one. If you feel you can't do that, then stop instead of forcing yourself to do that, or such things can happen, and they can be fatal not only for you, but for your family, friends and people you know - we usually live for other people, not for ourselves.
It applies to everything, but gaming is most dangerous since we stay focused for a very long period of time and might forget about our needs.

My body never ignores these signals, especially the bathroom need. xD

if people can't take jokes they shouldn't be on the interwebs in the first place.
that is the curse of our time. nobody got any real worries anymore. everybody is just waiting for that moment to feel offended and pretend to be totally outraged.

Kind of ironic. "the curse of our times", to you, is that no one has any real worries anymore? Now that sounds like a low bar for the biggest thing troubling you. Mayhaps you're the one with no real worries?
Furthermore, you don't get to police the internet. Yes, it is true that if you go online and are easily offended you will always find someone who offends you. But similarly, if you easily offend people, then by going online you are sure to find people who give you crap for it. Maybe I should say that "if people can't not make crass jokes they shouldn't be on the interwebs in the first place"?
Either way, I neither blacklisted Gagarinace nor got really outraged over his actions. All I'm saying is I found it hard to find the joke funny, under the circumstances. It was cheap and childish, and not intelligent humor in any way, and poorly timed. Therefore I don't think you need to lack a sense of humor to not enjoy it.

people in the modern world don't have real worries.
i don't have real worries. what about you? you've got internet access, you have a steam account, you win games and give them away and you've got a computer to play your games. you have a cozy home and your fridge is full of food. and if not you can just go to the next supermarket and get some. just like me and unless we are terminally ill with cancer we don't have to worry about anything.
go to south america. or africa. or to the world's armpit in the middle of nowhere like mongolia or something. they have to deal with real problems like getting food, staying warm and not getting killed. they don't even think about being offended because they don't have time for such nonsense. if you try hard enough and insult them they will eventually pull out a knife and cut you up but that is not the point. point is they have got real problems on their hands while we don't so we just go ahead and make some problems of our own by being touchy and easily triggered by anything that goes against our own opinions, ideas, thoughts or whatever.
but i digress. i know you weren't that blacklist guy and maybe i should have replied to him instead of you. i've read that joke too and while i didn't like it either i didn't take the time to display my outrage and displeasure in public like va3victis did. i just don't give a fuck and tend to ignore idiotic comments. that's the best way to deal with it. way better than 'omg i'm so outraged right now i will blacklist you and tell about it so everybody knows how outraged i am'.
it seems i am ranting a little and i should have replied to va3victis and not you in the first place. ; )

well i know you have disagreed with me at some point because i ended up on your blacklist for no obvious reason in the past. so i know you are one of those special folks and i gladly returned the favor.
but what do you think will happen if everything just escalates further and further just because nobody is willing to shut the fuck up for a moment?
leave the fire alone and it will burn out fairly quickly. add more and more fuel and you'll have a real problem at your hands.
it's not about being a coward, it's about being smart. yelling your opinion all over the place on every occasion you get while trying to be louder than everybody else doesn't make you brave either. and it's neither smart nor helping.
Comment has been collapsed.
The best part of your entire spiel is that, instead of "leaving the fire alone" you went out of your way to share your opinion about how our time is cursed and we shouldn't be on the 'interwebs' to someone randomly. Even when you apparently didn't appreciate the original 'joke' either. The only person who is being loud and repeatedly inciting during this whole conversation is you, so maybe you should take your own advice and shut it. That might help 🤔
Making derogatory remarks about people of colour might seem like "not an obvious reason" to you, but it does to me. I guess I'm special ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 🤷

oh you seem so superior by showing me the errors of my own ways while falling for them at the same time. such much for that. it's not like i was talking about the initial joke and the original response or something.
but wait a minute? so i became a racist without knowing or what do you imply? well that's a new and intriguing turn of events.
aha! is it because i mentioned samuel l. jackson being in every random movie you can find? that would be hilarious.

It was during my first MMO - Asheron's Call, and before I realized how addictive a good MMO can be. ;_;
To give you an idea, I started over a year after the game was released, and by the time I quit, I ran a guild with over 3500 "toons" in it, and was the 6th highest level character on any of the servers.
I don't play MMOs anymore. ;)

Yep. Guilty of going for over 3 days straight here, and I am sick! Mind you, this was before it got to the point it is now... still, I was sick back then too. Heck, I've stayed up over 100 hours without 1 minute of rest... most of that time gaming or doing other things related to computers or consoles..

Sounds to me like news just trying to grab attention out of a councidence and people jumping to conclusions.

yea.. I wouldn't recommend doing 24 hr streams. Did one a while back when Fallout 4 launched. Wasn't worth the strain on my body. Completely doable for me. Then again I did have a plan. Had a 10 liter jug of water with me... Made about 15 sammiches before hand that I just had to grab outta the fridge... had all sorts of snacks and coffee. Couldn't imagine streaming for 24 hrs with out being prepared like that. Most people don't realise how much energy and how stressful it is on your body to stream. Hot lights shining on you, if you have multiple PC set up, the extra heat generated from that. You mind burning a lot of energy too trying to keep up with chat and also focus on what ever game you are playing. I tend to be drenched with sweat after a 4 hr session. Staying hydrated is probably the most important thing.

having played WoT myself for quite some time i can say that the game is most likely the cause of death.
since i usually am a very calm person there are only a few things that raise my blood pressure and heart rate to over 9000 in a hurry. while i am not able to provide a full list since there may be kids around i can say that world of tanks certainly was one of them.
the worst piece of shit you can waste and ruin your time with.
may he rest in peace, at least he died doing what he loved. i hope i'll be that lucky, too. again i am unable to give details because kids may be around!

It's a really sad incident that happened, the guy was a heavy smoker/drinker and prone to anger (perhaps as part of his streaming 'persona') and it was a cardiac arrest, so it may not be true that the 24 hour stream caused it but there is a high likelihood that the stream and lack of rest put a strain on his heart and I don't think anyone can argue about that.
The sadder thing was seeing the first report of this be on the 'LivestreamerFail' reddit which had people posting stuff about how "he hasn't raised a single $ for charity just used them to buy booze & cigs it's fake" since initially it was just one his moderators who said he spoke to a police officer on Brian's discord account who told him they were investigating his death. These people then moved on to investigating his past broadcasts and came up with some "undeniable signs of Opiate use with itching and nods" Even if it was from OD, the guy has 3 kids and a family, why do you need to immediately attack and discredit everything about a person just because you are defensive about your own unhealthy habits and need to prove "It couldn't possibly be because of what I'm doing, it has to be something else".
RIP streamer guy and my condolences to the family =/

Sad to hear... My best guess? Maybe Thrombosis from sitting for too long? That is one thing that can hit anyone in any shape at any age. Otherwise, hearing about cigarettes and things like that... well, that shortens your life with every single puff. Glad I quit 4 years ago (3 years and 11 months), and the drinking... besides the nicotine, pretty much nothing is more toxic to the body than alcohol. It's basically liquid poison, if in fact they were a regular drinker like I see. Glad I quit that half my lifetime ago as well. If it didn't cause life issues for me I would probably not have stopped, seeing as how addictive it was for me in my own life, and considering how much pain I am in with chronic systemic infections.
More than 15 disabling health problems I'm personally dealing with. Sad to hear about this, but it is always a good idea to hydrate regularly, period, for anyone doing anything... every single day, and for long sessions, plan ahead for these sorts of things. I forget, but I try to remind myself to get up and move around if I've been on a session for many hours gaming. You get so into it, what seems like 20 minutes ends up being about 4 hours when you check the clock sometimes, if you get totally absorbed into it like I tend to do...
Very very sad to hear, especially for his kids and direct family.

Darn. Only 35, 3 kids and wife, and he was trying to raise money for charity. Too much sitting at gaming is BAD FOR US! And boy do I speak from experience. Am in therapy (PT) because I sat too long at computer playing my games without getting up and doing a bit of exercise. Talk about tight muscles that pulled my bone structure out of wack, this did it. So boys and girls get up walk around stretch those muscles, and kiss your wife and kids. If you don't have any pet your pets or call your mom and tell her you love her. You never know.

When Defiance first came on steam and received it's first free to play weekend (long before it became free to play overall), I sat down and played the game for 72 hours straight, the entire weekend, I didn't sleep for either 48 hours or 72, don't remember but I definitely didn't sleep a day, just sat and played, I really loved the game, didn't fall asleep, ate, played, I was fine, but now, after years of improper sleeping, I think I've fucked myself health and sleep routine wise, my eyes shed tears too much, I'm weak stamina wise now, yeah, it's bad not to sleep but you can for sure survive such periods, especially measly 24 hours. But the guy was a smoker and who knows if he even slept beforehand attempting this stream, so, yeah, it sucks, especially the way he died, playing a shitty game, it's horrible, feels bad. I do hope his family can survive without him, for their sake, a charity to help them is underway.

Apparently he was live streaming World of Tanks for charity when he decided to take a break, and never came back.
