Hey guys, I have been thinking about making a youtube channel, probably of gaming w/ commentary of some sort. Only problem I have is that sort of thing is overdone to shit. Would you recommend or discourage me from doing so and;

  1. do you often watch amateur commentary videos?
  2. would you prefer to watch a solo or dual commentary?
  3. what games would you want to see done?
    Thanks for any responses :)

I made a youtube channel once.

It was horrible, considering that I'm a teen and practically all I put on it was TF2.

Just drop on over to my Steam profile. It's there.

I don't like linking that piece of trash on here. Hurts my rep, if I even have one.

Thanks. I was surprised when I got lots of views and subscribers randomly, when the quality of my videos is just horrible.

I really should record some more, though.

Just do it, even if it doesn't work out, it's good to experience it.

It's a very personality driven platform, the only advice that i can really give is: "Provide quality content".
There isn't much you can do if people don't like to hear you talk about the stuff you want to talk about, but you can make sure that you don't annoy the people that would be interested in you, by having horrible audio and video quality in your videos.

thanks for the advice man :) could you possibly answer any of the 3 questions? "1. do you often watch amateur commentary videos? 2. would you prefer to watch a solo or dual commentary? 3. what games would you want to see done?"

I can, but it won't help you.

  1. Yes, all the time.
  2. It depends on your personality and the on of your Co-Host, some people work together, some don't. Chances are, you will be more successful alone.
  3. Depends on the kind of commentary you would provide, not everyone can comment every type of game. I watch a lot of very different types of videos, it comes down to how well the commentator does his job, much less what the actual game is.

Again, you need to find out what you are good at and see if people like it. What works for "Person A" will most certainly NOT work for "Person B".

I remember I wanted to make a Youtube, but never ended up. I made an account, found a decent recorder, got a headset, and some decent games, but just never did anything else other than stupid videos I never posted. I might in the future. Well good luck, I hope your channel turns out good.

  1. Occasionally
  2. Dual commentaries can be great but it depends on how well you two work with each other.
  3. Indie games are great, you might not have the same viewer base as the main popular titles but you'll also be competing with less youtubers as well.

I listen to/watch amatuers when I like their voice and they somewhat know what they're talking about and don't spend half the video saying "ummmmm"

I would suggest a dual commentary in a good co-op game.

if you can find your niche then i say go for it, just be prepared for just about every person on YouTube to criticize you until you have a decent following (usually about 5k+ subs). it will take time but just make sure you listen to not only what your fans want, as sometimes (and lets face it most of the time) they ask for stupid things, but also work on your own ability to actively create a story (metaphorical story) whilst playing instead of repeating over what is shown, as that is never a good idea to repeat what can clearly be seen.

:) if you think you would like it go for it! I'm a YouTuber and I love it! I recommend it to anyone, just give it a shot! Make a few videos post em around if you like them and they get a positive response keep at it! If you don't have fun doing it then say you gave it a shot and move on! No harm comes from trying!

As a fellow upcoming youtuber/game entertainer. The biggest problem you will face is staying consistent. This may seem silly but I have tried starting up youtube before and failed. I have been managing my stream recently as I have a small follower base now and I plan on somehow integrating this with youtube. Note you will start off with few subs if any and very few views. You just got to keep doing it though, realize your mistakes and improve them and you will keep getting more and more views/subs
