After reconsideration (yet again), I'm thinking about getting the R9 280x. XFX provide lifetime warranty for them, which is a big plus for me. Any thoughts on the matter? Considering my current CPU, and the uncertainty of an upgrade anytime soon, should I go for the R9 200 series or 300?

Due to nVidia's general douchebaggery, I will never, ever, use or recommend anything from them.

I'm considering the XFX R9 280x due to its lifetime warranty. Any thoughts?

I tend to change my GPU every other year, so that's not something I had checked into. But since the 380X is merely a refresh of the 280X with a slight bump in speed, it might be worth it to get the "older" model for the extra warranty if you're planning on keeping the card for a while.
My current card is XFX-branded and I have no complaint. Their product quality is excellent.

If you're buying a card "now", an ATI card might be worth considering, as they seem to be more forwards compatible with the next version of DirectX. That said, it might also be worth waiting for nvidia to release their new line of cards, they're due to be out soon, and that should take care of the forwards compatibility issues, and it looks like it will be a big performance bump.

As an AMD supporter, I'd have to say, you probably wouldn't have regretted the 970. It is the only NVidia card I usually recommend to people with a clear conscience as it has a very good price/performance ratio and still within reasonable price range for a gaming PC budget.

As always, I recommend checking with Logical Increments as the first place for information on new computer parts. It's the most comprehensive and in-depth list I've ever encountered on the topic, so useful part suggestions are likely to be found there.

I'd recommend saving up to get a better card a little later than buy something worse now. I have the same CPU (i5 750 2.66GHz), and last year bought this GTX 970. It's a higher end 970 with factory overclocking that makes it almost as fast as a stock 980.
I thought I was going to need to build a new machine for GTA V, but after the GPU upgrade and overclocking the CPU to 3.8GHz and it handles GTA V almost maxed out. I paid $330 USD for it on sale, the lowest I see it now is $325 USD. If you can catch one on sale it might be closer to your price range.

Still rocking with my gtx 580 ...it's on par with a 950 but when i over clock it well it's 45-55 FPS in witcher 3 at 1080p with mixed medium/high settings ....but yeah the 1.5GB of Vram is a downer lol should have got a 3GB version ...but for you i'd say get a 750Ti the are cheap and fairly ofay for gaming

XFX R9 280x is nice performer. Its performance somewhere between R9 380 and R9 390. Basically, between GTX 960 and GTX 970.Depends on games of course. So it
s still nice GPU.
P.S. I have R9 280 and play most games with no problem at all in 1080p. Of course, sometimes I turn off ultra settings and/or AA:) BUT most games runs high settings just fine

It's done!
I just ordered exactly this:
Thank you all for the recommendations, I really appreciate everyone's help. I'm so fucking hyped to dump my HD6450 after all these years. :D
Obligatory "thank you" giveaway
So, things are finally looking up after months of financial "bullshit". I can finally afford to get a GPU upgrade, but I'm not really "with it" when it comes to graphic cards (I mean come on, I'm still with an HD6450). I know that I can count on you guys to find some good stuff which I can then compare, examine, and consider.
Here are the important things and stuff:
Go wildSuggest away! I'm not gonna lie; I barely know anything about GPUs so I'm leaving this to the "experts". Go easy on me and explain stuff like I'm three years old.Comment has been collapsed.
