In what order would you show the first 6 Star Wars Movies to someone who has never seen them before?

View Results
4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, because that's the order I saw them in and therefore the only right way!
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, because chronological order rulez
completely different one because fuck the world (also I hate Star Wars)

Here is an article explaining this. It's called Machete Order. http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/

Comment has been collapsed.

Nice, but Ep 1 has the best fight in the saga and 2 is as shitty as 1. Fuck, even more. 123 are so bad written

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not because Ep 1 is a shitty movie (though it was) that it's removed in the Machete order, it's just unnecessary to any important plot points, so if one of the prequels can be completely excluded, it's episode one. The other two are necessary to explain how Anakin becomes Darth Vader and Luke's father.

The reason to skip Episode I isn't that it's bad, it's that it's irrelevant.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You treat Ep 1 as expanded universe, something fun that happens in the same universe but isn't relevant to the main plot which you go and watch after the main series is over.

Also, +1 for Machete order. I watched it with my family and we all thought it was much better.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No. I treat Ep 1 as a piece of shit movie with a extremely weak script, pedophilia, a universe without any sense and a good nice final battle with the lightsabers, the best of the 6 films (i didnt see Ep 7 for now). Expanded universe my ass xD

This is fucking brilliant. I may be able to actually enjoy 2/3's of the prequels now.

THANK YOU!

Episode 1 is nearly on par with 456 imo, it's as fun as Star Wars are supposed to be. 2 and 3 are full of teh drama so they're definitely worse.

Machete Order is the best for telling the story IMO. Chronological sounds good, until you realize that Episode 3 spoils the reveal in Episode 5, among other story telling problems created by chronological viewing. If you don't get caught up in episode numbers, and look at the films objectively, the series has a lot less impact in chronological order.

And even if you don't want to go with machete order, if you want the natural order of the story you'd want to do it by release date, since that's how the story was originally told. You generally don't get prequels first because it's not how you are meant to receive them. If it were, they wouldn't be "prequels", and would have been released first.

123456

When you read a book do you start from the middle? Why begin from 4? Begin from 1 and watch as you should. (i am saying this as i've seen quite a few stating that 456123 is a better order...)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

1, 2 and 3 are prequels, not beginning of the saga. They are made after New hope, Empire strikes back and Return of the jedi and they are made to give us some back story on Anakin (when we already know who he will become). If you watch 1,2,3,4,5,6 than you already know spoiler from Empire strikes back.

Starting with 1 in this case is beginning with 4, because 1 is the 4th to be released.

except it's not a book... it's 2 sets made in different decades, always watch what is made first (in this case, especially due to darth vader reveal in the old ones)

by the way, the original episode4 was supposed to be its own movie, no sequels

Easily tricked by number, Episode IV is the first film so going in order is 4,5,6,1,2,3,7... .also think about the first sega a lot of it is meant to be mystery having watching the second sega would ruin that

People curse 123 for not being as awesome as 456.
I am a huge fanboy (fanman actually, if that word means anything). You can either go 123456 or 456123, it really won't matter much.

you know what answer is eligible to start a nuclear war if the causalities are the right one:
from worst to best.
also i think 1-2-3-4-5-6 is the best order, because even when 4-6 are made before the others, the story is much clearer for a beginner if he sees the movies in, storywise, chronological order. but thats only my opinion.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Agreed. 4 - 6 are pretty logical if you've never seen any star wars things before, but then jumping into 1- 3 without any background can be confusing (they might think it is after the events of 6).

well technically if you do chronological of the numbers it's 123456, but chronological movie wise would be 456123

and he didn't specify.. he just said chronological :P (as in squal, not OP)

Well, didn't specify but yes I meant as 4-5-6-1-2-3, always play/see sagas as they came out, if not, you can spoil a main event. In this case I doubt there is still a human beign that doesn't know it but still.

I actually count them in the order they were released, so Empire Strikes Back would be 2.

(I also have like no memories of the second trilogy, except Jar Jar - probably the best character in it because they don't try to hide that he's ridiculous - and that terrible scene in the flower fields in 5 that warrants the skipping.)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What are you talking about? There's only 4 movies! 4, 5, 6 and 7.

But seriously, the prequels ruin more than they add. If he/she never saw SW, just skip the 3 prequels as they might just kill all interest in the movies.

If not, meesa gonna smash your head in with a petrified poopoo.

I don't think everybody hates the prequels... maybe we need a poll for that :P

I personally liked them, overall (maybe not as much as the originals), so who is to know if someone else not seeing any of them previously would like or dislike them.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well they should or they are wrong. Red letter media made some excellent reviews of the 3 prequels, explaining everything wrong with them. You learn a lot about movie making and story telling too. Here's a link to the first one: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5919C8DE6F720A2D

I won't spoiler the 7th, but it can be safely watched as first.
Then 4 and 5 because that's how it started and set in motion.
1 2 and 3 as prequels (well, they are).
Then 6 to see how the first 6 ended and see a bit of what the 7th showed as "past".

I voted 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3. I believe that seeing the movies in order can shock the person when they get to the "lower tech" but "better movie" that are the originals. The old movies feel so outdated in some aspects =\

I agree with you. You have to sell the movie. This is why it is better to start with the newer one, and once you get hooked proceed to the good stuff. :D
