Electric treatment for mental health problems good?
I do not know about ECT, but my father has Parkinsons and he had a surgery to install an electric brain implant.
So far it looks like it helps to lower his dependency on meds.

ECT are still one of the most powerful way to combat a lot of mental illnesses. And it doesn't give as many side effects as drugs do. Don't listen to people who don't know anything about it or just saw a movie with Jack Nicholson, it doesn't look like that. A special doctor puts you to sleep and then... you just wake up. You might feel neck ache or memory loss as you said afterwards, but during treatment you're unconscious. Look at pubmed or people who actually experienced that.
I haven't experienced ECT myself, but knew a guy. He was schizophrenic, thought he was Jesus. After 6-8 treatments he felt better. But one case is just one case, can't generalize it. If I had a chance to try it with my issue, I wouldn't hesitate.

I suffer from Schizo (diagnosed but have few symptoms due to good meds), Borderline (my opinion), deep depression (diagnosed and meds doesn't seem to work well enough even though at normal dose), OCD (medium intensity or whatever it is called), and a lot of social anxiety (undiagnosed but mentioned to my psychiatrist). Yes there is a lot of stigma about this method which IMO seems to be pretty well developed nowadays). And my country wouldn't take as lightly on new treatments unless it was proven worthwhile.

Can't rely, as my case is more depression-kind. Though I clearly see you're aware that it's not as bad as it seems, probably you're just looking for someone, who will agree with what you're already thinking.
Game forum ain't best one I believe for such things. From my past, longecity and bluelight was decent forums for such things. Can't tell if they're still. There might be also some forums in your country, you're from Sweden, so I can't guide you exactly. Look for forums about schizo, depression, neurosis and even about illicit drugs. Often regular folks have huge knowledge.
And from my experience, diet is REALLY underestimated in health problems. I struggled with horrible anxiety since I was little kid. Tried meds, therapy and milion other stuff. They did some good, but until I hit the right diet lifestyle I couldn't say that I beat anxiety. Not sayin' it will cure you, but we're living in the world ruled by big pharma, so if you want to get healthy, food is the first step.
Have you asked your doctor, that you actually trust and he knows stuff? Perhaps he can explain it to you and figuratively "hold your hand" through the process.

I don't like ECT, and I don't like how they can be marketed as the ultimate solution when everything else has failed. Maybe it will help in your case, maybe it won't.
My piece of advice would be to try to set a maximal number of ECT in advance, so that if you don't feel any benefit from them after the pre-defined number of ECT, then your psychiatrist does not try to market it as the solution which will eventually work if you do twice as many ECT, and repeat twice more if they still fail, etc. If you don't feel better after 10, don't go for 20, 50, etc. "because it would end up working at some point".
I don't know if I am clear. Try to go with a scientific approach to the treatment, it is not magic, and there has to be a point where you should be able to stop the treatment if it does not work as greatly as advertised, without endlessly going for more.
deep depression (diagnosed and meds doesn't seem to work well enough even though at normal dose)
If meds don't work, maybe there is a reason and it would be worth checking vitamin deficiency, especially B9 and B12.
Anyway, good luck and stay safe.

It seems like a radical and short term solution that doesn't replace therapy and meds but I personally know a couple of people with bipolar diagnosis who said their life was drastically changed for the better by it after "conventional" treatment failed.
Now it doesn't mean it's for everyone with the same diagnosis. And it doesn't mean it's a solution for you.
Please see several doctors, even if they disagree with you, and follow their advice. This is a serious form of treatment and it does include side effects.

I asked to get help from ECT. Do you know anyone who did it and were they helped by it? I have pretty severe mental health problems and although i'm very helped by meds they haven't fully restored me. I feel the risks (temporary short memory loss as the usual one) are very low compared to the potential improved quality of life i can receive. What are your opinions on whether i should undergo it or not?
