I "must" copy the most from Moony1986 because a lot of her used words fits for me 100% too.
Your question is very hard to answer.
It depends on how you define a friend. In the Facebook way it would be everyone who is on my WL and where I'm on theirs would be friends :D but that's not how I would call it.
I must know the people much more and longer to say "this is a friend".
A big part on my whitelist i meet in steam and first later i found out that they are in sg too.
First meet in sg, then more contact because friendly and/or interesting people.... and then writing and/or talking outside of sg ... hm... a handfull.
And only a few (4 with one closed eye^^) of them i would call friends.
But generally here are a lot of people I like to communicate with, who give me, sometimes, a reason to smile and where I'm happy if they win something from me :o)
I know that i sounds sometimes (ok often^^) a other way because i often tell more the bad things BUT i see the good things too.
edit: And i meet people from steam and sg into Reallife. Yes i am that kind of guy that want, when possible, not only have a +1 counter at the friendlist :-D

So its been 2 years since i joined steam gifts , things have been pretty much the same since my last cake
activity on SG seems to be much lower compare to last year tho , my own activity also drop since like half a year ago so i guess its probably not just me
looking back at the last 2 years and seeing how many friends ive actually made on SG , the number is actually pretty small , for me ive only made maybe 3-4 friends used to be one more but than he backstabbed me :O
