Enhanced Steam, even if Steam itself is slowly stealing their ideas and adding them to the core functionality.

Steam Inventory Helper is the main unsafe one since it turned into Russian spyware. For market it's replaced by Steam Economy Enhancer but for trade offers there isn't any alternative yet.

Also how can people survive without Enhanced Steam?

I use only Steam Inventory Helper, although I keep it 99% of the times disabled - it helps me a lot for instance to turn all the useless inventory items (wallpapers, emoticons etc.) into gems xD
