Hi everyone, just joined a few days ago :-)
Just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone offering the chance to get a free game here :-D
7 years ago

Then someone said make sure you gift back

So like 7 years later i respond saying still here and gifting back

But im guessing that i have gifted back so much that i am mocking them rather than letting them know i followed there wise words

Hey Ged, if its https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/2ODHT/newbie thread you are talking about. Can you not just go back into it and reopen the thread?

EDIT: i see the thread has been closed by the moderator as they think you're bumping and necroing an old thread.

Just keep giving. Its all good!

Sorry for your loss.
I remember the Internet when the netiquette was "search for a relevant topic, and if you find one post in it, and only if you don't find one make a new thread". I'm so old, I even use ASCII emoticons too :-(

hehe, maybe we need a "stale bot" like on Github which automatically closes old inactive threads ;)

I prefer that way. It keeps things organized and makes it so much easier to find what you are looking for. Now when you do a google search for something, you come up with tons of different threads about the same thing and half of them don't have an answer.

I often try searching for something about a game and find a thread from someone else asking the same question, but there is no solution. If I figure out how to fix the issue, I will reply in the thread with the solution, even if the thread is many years old. Then there is an answer available when other people search for the same thing and find that thread.

I have come across some sites where every thread automatically gets locked if there has not been a new comment within a certain number of days and I think that is ridiculous.

You're generous when you say half. I'd even say most threads have someone saying "just google it" as the final answer. So you do a web search and all your results say "do a web search" ðŸĪŠ

I think both the mods that responded did so nicely. Fair of MSKOTOR to close down an old thread, but also nice that grez1 gave the OP props. :)

Oh no!!!
Apparently im the guilty one :(

I was randomly clicking around and found this old thread. I just thought it was funny how the "dont forget to contribute" advice developed over the years so i just commented with no bad intentions at all! It was not about mocking someone, not the intention that Gedi's thread will be closed and also didnt think about the "necro" thingy at all, cuz im not even too familiar about this topic and didnt know its maybe annoying for some people etc...

Basically im replying to this thread now to say sorry to Gedi, to everyone who was annoyed about me necroing the thread and the mods who had to deal with it apparently...

Soo.. Im very sorry! Hopefully the community will forgive me :(
Anyway, have a nice weekend guys and i will try my best not doing something similar in the future!

It's okay, I got quite the laugh when I randomly stumbled upon the old newbie thread and realized they had been so generous that they had given away more than 60,000 gifts. I am sure that there was no ill intent with your actions, sometimes things happen.

As a humble servant of the community, deed forgiven.

maybe, maybe not, you tell me, sgtools crashes, so i can't see the percentages

So, just about over 6,000 of them might be legitimate? That's still a lot if you think about it?

Let's assume, the public GAs are the same percentage as the won ones, which is at 3.4%, which are about 2k GAs in 7 years, which is nothing extraordinary to be fulsome in your praise, especially when it's hard to figure out, which games were given away.

Lol, checking his last 250 GAs it seems to be even worse. Just useless for him leftovers for peons, that are not members of the game exchanging rings. Out of 3 public and 1 large group/WL GAs 3 have been done after getting no entries 3-4 times and the 4th after getting no entries once.

To be clear though. I do not mind those rings per say, I would just like the minimal number of entries required for the GA to count in any stats to be raised from 5 to at least 30. I do mind folks, who make their GAs exclusively to such groups, yet large part of their wins comes from public/large group GAs, but this does not seem to be the case with GediKnight. So I don't see him as a villain here, but certainly I also don't see him as one of the SG pillars/heroes.

Funny thing about SGTools btw. I had the same problem once checking icaio 15k+ (then) GAs. I've reported it in SGTools thread and it has been promptly fixed by knsys, but I guess, that neither of us expected to see 60k GAs in one name ;)

He has his own giveaway group so hard to blame him for primarily focusing on its preservation over public GAs (and judging by your portion of public x private giveaways, this concept shouldn't be completely unfamiliar to you either).

The difference between you and Gedi is some 60k 'gifts sent' which is exactly what it makes him - a very valuable member of SteamGifts community. Most of the members here will never give away 2k games ever, regardless of their value, so judging someone by exclusivity of their giveaways is just silly.

I think his point was that you can open it again next year by yourself and bump it. Its just closed, not deleted.

Mockery is perfectly acceptable IMO since they said to make sure you gift back. Gifting back shouldn't be expected. Sure, it's nice and should be done, but people also shouldn't expect it when giving out gifts. Most of what's on this site are spare keys, anyway. It's not like we're trading.

Anyway, hey, glad you stuck around.
