Will you buy it?
I'll be the 3k+ hours kid (lots of hours logged on Battle.net as I preordered) that comes in and say I don't recommend buying this... even though I played the game for 3k+ hours.
"You have 3k+ hours, it can't be a bad game unless you're stupid", I hear everyone ask. And yes, that's true, there were a lot of fun bits and as a whole, I had fun with the game with my clanmates.... but you're a fool if you trust Bungie to ever make the right decision. They have been messing up significantly on every single game that they have ever worked on for a nigh decade at this point with their latest game, Marathon, being delayed and having stolen assets, which is embarrassing. Playing a GaaS requires you to trust the people that are making the game and I don't. You can also see it from the playerbase numbers that people aren't happy with Destiny 2. This new expansion had a lower peak than most of the start of season peak, which doesn't even have that much content.
If you want to go in and play just the campaign and not deal with the GaaS, you know what, sure, can't go wrong with $8.43. The gunplay is fantastic and there are some good campaigns (unless they've been sunset [removed from the game for arbitrary reasons]) in that bundle. There's some fun that can be had, but I can't recommend engaging with the end-game and making anymore purchases. I'm happy to be 3 years clean of this game.

The beautiful lifecycle of games as a service.
It's strange that the games we play the most as a service are the ones we recommend the least. With Marathon, I don't know if it's good news for Destiny. I imagine with the recent controversies and games as a service, they won't entrust their fate 100% to Marathon. From what I understand, Marathon is still planned as a paid game, right? I like the aesthetic, but I don't think many people are willing to pay for it when there are free alternatives. I'm just wondering why Marathon appears with the LGBT+ and psychological horror tags on Steam. xD
In my case, the game with over 4,000 hours that I don't recommend is SMITE. Smite 1 is great, but it doesn't get any content. They released Smite 2, but the content doesn't transfer and the microtransactions are cheaper, but everything is sold separately, so the bundle is more expensive.
Just one more question about Destiny 2. In the bundle description, it says "Standard Edition." Does that imply anything? Doesn't this bundle include all the expansion content?

I would assume "standard edition" just means you don't get the seasonal DLC, which would be a waste of money and nigh pointless since you can't even redeem or get progress in that season's battle pass.
I can totally understand some games as a service becoming ones you can't recommend anymore, like Overwatch and Apex Legends, I would be wary on recommending nowadays, but Bungie and Destiny 2 has been absolute rough from the start and it feels like so many people are running on copium just because the core gameplay feels fantastic.

Don't buy, the game died years ago and Bungie is just milking the playerbase.
I got the game bundled with my GPU i think it was, and had fun with the base content. The bundle came with Osiris and Warmind expansion, and that is where i left it.
A year or so later i tried to join again and they absolutely fucked all the progresion system, added bunch of crafting materials that i didn't have because i didn't keep playing and a ton more of microtransactions... I felt so lost when i logged in that inmediatly uninstalled and never even tried to play it.
Had fun with gunplay and missions/history was cool... But that's it.

They "confirmed" that content removal is going to stop, at least for the main content. Destiny releases main content and side content. Main content was butchered and removed mostly in the first 2 years of the game because they said "it was too confusing and too big to manage", it was complete BS, they only wanted to remove content, to return later via side content, content which you paid for initially, being returned to you again a second and/or third time, reskinned and paid for again. This is how Bungie works behind the scenes.
They butchered gear as well because "too strong too fast", then made like multiple different systems for loot untill they finally settled with something, lo and behold, they returned the butchered gear to us years later, because now, the old gear that was butchered, people have deleted it or it is simply just not viable in the current sandbox of the game.
Anyways the side content is always removed from the game, this is the seasonal stuff you pay for, the content stays there for the year it is relevant to. The thing with seasonal content is that they do a weekly drip feed of each season for that specific year, we had seasons where the season finale mission stayed ingame for 1 week and then it was removed. Imagine if you went on vacation for a week on that specific week, you would miss out on the finale of that season because they decided to release the ending bit 1 week prior to the next expansion being released (which started a new yearly season cycle and removes all previous seasonal content). The only stuff that stays ingame from seasons is gear, cosmetics you obtained and sometimes they keep some maps or activities, in order to keep the game "fresh" with more things to do.
This game has a concept for "exotic mission", these are usually the best type of missions to experience in the game, the funny thing is that this is side content, so these missions end up being removed, eventually. Imagine creating top tier content that requires lots of dev time, to then just remove it...
This is my POV, it might be a bit outdated as i disconnected myself from this game almost completely with lightfall expansion release. I've played the final shape near the end of the seasonal year. I try to minimize my spending with this game (50% off or more purchases only) and simply just stick to story now.

Even if they confirm, that they won't remove main content: Who says it will stay that way?
And the seasonal missions remind me a lot of these old facebook games where you have timed quests - only much shorter than here.
So, the essence of your text is a big red flag for me - no matter how cheap the game is.

Their tactics involves a lot of FOMO. Bungie is one of the worst studios/publishers out there currently. They were part of activision not long ago, they blamed activision for part of the bad stuff that destiny 2 got that pissed a lot of players, guess what, it was all a lie and a cover up from them. Bungie after leaving activision became worst as they continued to do more bad than good for their game.
At least while they were part of Activision, they would get help from other studios within the group, this would make the overall destiny quality much higher even if they decided to screw us over with schemes, this is why destiny 1 was banging after a poor launch. Destiny 2 launched in a mediocre state, then released 2 small expansions that were bad quality just like the latest one. Then launched 1 larger expansion for the second year of the game that made things great again, but the damage was already dealt and lots of people left and lost trust in Bungie, which was part of Activision back then.
Bungie after leaving them behind, kept the bad records going and doubled down on the bad stuff, which means, they only were there for the "experience" on how to f*ck up their game and community. Greed led them to the current corner they are facing. What was once a great game, that had the potential to be something as big as GTA, was butchered by greed and stupidity behind the scenes.
I do not feel sorry for their current struggles. The leadership behind the scenes is completely corrupted and stupid. The bad thing is the talent behind the game suffering the consequences of bad management.

There's always topics about this game, about people wanting to give it a try or not...
Long story short, stay the f*ck away from this game and bungie. Thank me later.
Reason to stay away: Game can become addictive if you are into shooter looter with super powers (and control of elements) type of game, lore that involves aliens invading your lawn and you have to send them back to orbit somehow. Gameplay can be addictive overall because it is good. Game is predatory in terms of money scheming (they are always trying to squeeze money out of you), studio is predatory towards their community because they do not care about you at all and continue to rub you the wrong way as much as possible, they reuse assets from removed content that you paid for and pay again to see that reused content. They butchered the storylines by removing the first 2 years of story, so good luck getting into the game and understand wtf is going on. HUD can be a clusterF of a mess for new players, good luck figuring out what to do and in what order. PVP is plagued with cheaters or people with thousands of hours that do nothing else for a living (yes, i have thousands of hours and have been there as a "try hard" myself, but this was during the lifespan of destiny 1, stressing over a game is not good for your health. This is why i went more PVE focused with destiny 2.). Monetization hell is a thing in this game.
Yes i bundled both good and bad into a paragraph, game is a mixed bag of good and bad put together. You get this formula of game is just good enough to hook you on, but the more time you spend playing it, the more you will understand how bad it is in reality, but then you are addicted to something that feels good but looks bad and you have no god damn clue what to do to move on.
The rabbit hole goes much deeper than what i describe here.
I've followed the development cycle of destiny, since its alpha/beta on playstation 4. Played the game on a friends ps4 to get a feel of how the game was, i liked it, bought a ps4 with the game, then started buying dlc. As time moved on, i started loosing my interest slowly, untill i reached a point i couldn't take it anymore, along with the people i started the journey with (everyone moved on). I still get ingame from time to time and still see addicts from back in the first year of destiny 1, still playing nonstop, probably with over 100k hours clocked at this point. How do i know this? All it takes is to look at their achievements ingame, some of the stuff requires lots of grind or time in general to achieve. This is something i did with destiny 1, played frequently, 3 characters every weekly reset for way too damn long.
If anyone does ignore this warning and decides to play the game, do keep in mind to not take this game seriously and try to avoid sinking too much time into it. Otherwise you will be caught on the hook and will suffer long term for as long as the game is viable to make money. This is one of those games the person has to have good self control to avoid falling into a predatory/psychological never ending loop of abuse.

Won't lie, I'm tempted just for the sake of (what I assume to be) a fancy AAA campaign that's about the equivalent of going to watch some random popcorn flick, but I'm worried it gets shut down at some point and that since there's constantly new content streaming in that buying this would be silly in the long run unless you immediately plan playing this.

I'm pretty sure they won't be shutting down the servers for a good long time. Destiny 1 is still running and there aren't that many people playing it for a while already. Which means there is literally no reason for D1 servers to still be going right now, yet they are.
Considering they are starting a new saga for destiny 2, i expect at least 5 more years of content for this game, as long as it is profitable. But considering the bad launch on the latest expansion, that plan might be cut short and could instead lead to a premature release of destiny 3, or the death of the franchise + studio.
Destiny will die as a franchise the moment it gets abandoned. Bungie was trying to abandon Destiny like they did with Halo, but they couldn't do it instantly since it was their cash cow, now that things are bad for them. They need to keep Destiny going, otherwise they are f'ed. I'm fairly certain their idea was to branch out of destiny and create multiple games that could be "big hits", destiny 3 was put on hold for marathon and it most likely seems to be a case where destiny 3 might just be scrapped forever, if we were to base on the new saga starting in destiny 2, unless the new saga is only meant to be an introduction to destiny 3...

They're going to have to pay me a lot more than that to dirty up my laptop. What's that? listening to ear piece
My apologies, ladies and gentlemen. I've just now been informed that they expect YOU to pay THEM for this "honor".
I'm very confused and bewildered.

All of these comments have already said it better but allow me to +1
Highly addictive and quickly becomes a loot-management chore. Then better loot next week. Did I already say highly addictive?
Shiny, fun, almost-RPG, definitely MMO, hard-to-put-down monstrosity from Hell. Don't do it.

Loved the game when it launched FTP but I'm not paying 1-2 times a year for an "expansion" which is just small story content and access to an area/raid. I can buy tons of good games for the money I would be spending yearly on Destiny to get all "content".
And yes, there's the removed content issue, or the more friendly wording they use "sunsetting".
May as well be a subscription game, because it pretty much already is.

NO. Don't, just don't. It went to shit and it's a daily grind.

Tempting offer, but I keep remembering that parts of Destiny (1+2) are locked away because Bungie do not give a damn about improving the game's backend to actually include all the game content at once or have a way for players to choose which parts of the game to download. Not even asking for Sony's help.

DESTINY 2: CLASSIC COLLECTION (2025)
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/55757/Destiny_2_Coleccin_de_Legado_2025/
It includes 7 DLCs. All of these DLCs are in HL, and if you buy the bundle, you get an additional 65% off. It's cheaper than the final DLC.
DLC List
The Final Form - Standard Edition
Eclipse - Standard Edition
The Witch Queen - Standard Edition
Beyond Light Pack
Shadowkeep Pack
Renegades Pack
30th Anniversary Pack
It doesn't include all the game's content; the content for the second half of 2024 and 2025 is not included, and the game has microtransactions.
Personally, I haven't played much Destiny, and I have no idea if the game is worth it. I've seen a lot of negative reviews and criticism from the community, But I don't think there is any game as a service without criticism.
If anyone plays it, please share your thoughts on these DLCs and whether they're worth buying.
