I've been working on a website for hosting competitive gaming tournaments (both free and paid).
It's shaping up quite well, therefore I've decided that I should start looking for an audience.
Don't worry, I'm not here to spam links as nothing is finished yet, I just want your thoughts and opinions.

First of all, are you interested in competitive team gaming? This includes virtually any game that can be played competitively with a team, such as Counter-Strike, Dota 2, League of Legends, COD series, BF series, even more user-friendly ones, like Awesomenauts.

Would you ever pay a tournament participation fee? The fee would obviously go towards a pot which will be collected by the winner, thus creating a real tournament experience, unlike the integrated competitive modes in games, such as Dota 2 and CS:GO.

If you answered no to the above question, the site would also run free and (hopefully) sponsored tournaments, where you could win physical prizes from our partners.

All in all, would you be interested in such a site? I remember a time when I was actually looking for such a site, to take part in some tournaments and could not find one. There don't seem to be many out there, except one run by MLG.

Thank you for any contribution to the topic. Also, sorry, but there is no hidden giveaway.

I like the idea and I like the games, I feel you should also add smite as a game on your site. You should also split it up into groups, the people who play for fun, and the try hards. Also me personally I would not pay for an entry fee but there are plenty of people who would.

The games I named are merely examples, there would be loads more, plus new additions would be made regularly.
As for the groups, I'll look into that, but I don't think theres need to split people up, as then they can play both free and paid tournaments whenever they wish. Later on it might be a good idea to group people based on their skill, so that beginners don't get crushed by veterans.

Yes thats exactly what i mean, i would like to see the site when it comes up, would you send me a like or make an announcement when it is up?

Absolutely! Interested in the games and competitiveness. The entry fee for tournaments I wouldn't mind. Keep doing what you're doing, you'll get people interested easily. Good luck!

Thanks! I was worried that once I've finished, not many people will be interested and the site would quickly get shut down.

You're welcome! Don't worry, I'm sure people will be attracted, like me. Whenever you do start up, let me know.

I'm hoping to finish it before the year runs out, however that is very ambitious, as I have quite a lot left to do. That would of course be an Alpha, for testing purposes, the real thing would launch significantly later.

If you'll make people pay a fee than you have to be sure all the rules are going to be followed. I have played a couple of League of Legend's tournaments (Black monster cup as ex.) and they were all a mess, the other teams always wanted to change the time, they did not let us pause the game (one of us had a pc crash and since it was a custom game there WAS the possibility to pause but the rules weren't really clear so we ended up getting flamed because they said we were taking advantage of that pause). If the tournament is free, the users who are disappointed by the lack of order will just stay away from your site, but if they payed... they'll start flaming. A lot.

Yes, I understand. Specific rules would be set for each game, and those who bother reading them will be able to quote them in case they're not being followed. Paid tournaments are also less likely to be a mess, as if a person has paid to take part, they'll be less likely to risk getting disqualified. That is actually one of the main reasons why I prefer paid tournaments, however I believe occasional free tournaments would make a nice addition.

True but, you also need free tournaments to draw people in, for the people who are new/bad, and just and most importantly to have fun

bleh, paid and free tournaments in dota 2 with prize money are handled already by ixdl and/or NEL/SEL/EEL.

That's just Dota 2. I'm talking about having games that aren't available on other sites. Also, their website seems to be a forum, what I'm working on would be much more user friendly, and would keep track of stats and such properly.

Ah, didn't dig deep enough to find that. Anyway, I personally would always use a website over a piece of software to view someting as simple as stats. It makes setting up game lobbies easier though.

Overall I like the idea. I think you should consider allowing users to set up custom tournaments/matches that would be listed similarly to the way you describe. This would add some active maintenance (potentially) but could really help fuel rivalries if done well.

If you just found a niche that would be in MLG's domain but they haven't exploited I'd go for it quickly.

When you say custom tournaments/matches do you mean that as in the ability to challenge another team? Or actually create a public tournament on the site? If it's the first one, that's actually a great idea.
