Let's make a quick entry. So far I've only known crafting badges give coupons. So here's the questions, these are also based on what I've found on the internet, which need confirmation however, as they may be outdated.

  1. It's said some events also gives you coupons?
  2. It's said completing some achievements(Not sure if full or specific ones) drops a coupon?
  3. It's said some purchases may grant you coupons?
  4. It's said there's even a random chance to obtain a coupon?

The first one, well events, sounds reasonable. Rest? Sounds unlikely to me? Can some of you confirm?

Also secondary sort of out for the OT, do games like Orion: Prelude usually go on bundles? IsThereAnyDeal doesn't seem to have it, SteamDB has it maximum -50% recorded, doesn't seem to be any coupons online as much as Google suggests. Simply wait 50% and get it? And yes, I will. I had played it on free weekend sometime ago with a friend and it was quite fun!

I think the Steam coal event did let you craft coupons.

Other than that there are also Steam keys that will give you a coupon upon activation (sometimes Alienware gives you such Steam keys).

Sometimes coupons seem to appear out of the blue, but AFAIK it turned out every time, that they are given to users for already owning certain games when the devs decide to hand out these coupons.

And ofc - as you already mentioned - crafting badges gives you coupons, too.

I've never heard of coupons for achievements, purchases or other random coupon drops either.

There've been coupons as part of bundle deals/preorder bonuses etc. This is because the developer/publisher can control if, when and how they want to have a series of coupons distributed.

I don't know answers for your questions, I just wanted to use occasion, maybe someone will know - is it possible to predict what coupon will be droped while crafting a badge? For example - when I craft a badge from game XXX will I always get a coupon for game YYY or can it by any coupon from some pre set base?

As for ORION: Prelude - just buy it. It's extra cheap. I don't remember this game being in any bundle, but as far as I remember it's discounted on every steam sale. Also maybe try to trade it for some cards, this game was given away free, maybe some people still have keys.
Also, honestly I think that ORION is too cheap to be in bundle. Devs fixed the game, gained player base, they convince people to play it. I think they are already in the point where they wanted to be, there is no reason for them to include their game in any bundle.

I think they're pretty random. I remember crafting the same badges, 4 more than my friend, none overlapping coupons. Well, I will buy it. But it will most likely happen by selling cards and getting it over Steam. Or if I can craft a coupon for it somehow with 50%/75%. Or somewhere it becomes bundled so I can buy games on Steam with cards, sell Steam gifts on G2A, convert back money into my Paypal, purchase the bundle, though I lose 1€ with this process.

Thanks for the heads up though, I guess I'll wait the next discount.

Thank you for reply to my question. I wanted to suggest crafting an ORION badge (it should cost you around 0,44 euro) but then I realize it probably isn't 'best value' option, especially not knowing If you actually will get that coupon.

Oh, and in case you will ever want to play together when you will buy ORION, add me on steam, or something like that. But keep in mind that I play almost only survival mode so I will probably kinda suck in all other PvP modes xP

They are completely random, although sometimes you may see 2-3 coupons drop for the same game in a row.

  1. Events don't drop coupons any more since Steam events have regressed to the two season sales, when coupons are replaced by event cards.
  2. Never heard about achievement-specific ones. If they exist, I assume they are related exclusively to Valve games.
  3. Some, very some, and only in times when the dev/publisher has it. Those coupons are a light version of the 2/3/4-packs: buy the game, get a coupon for it so you can buy one for a friend cheaper. Sometimes bundle sites have similar promotions; Humble Bundle just had one a month or so ago I think.
  4. Yes, this is true. Exceptionally rare though. It may be tied to a dev/publisher just asking Steam to spread a few hundred thousand coupons, but that is only my guess. I have no idea what causes this.

  1. I see, so that's what internet was mentioning.
  2. Thought similiarly.
  3. You mean the HB's Borderlands Pre-Sequal? I think that one was HB store special. Other than that, can't say have seen that on HB.
  4. I see, other comments seem to be leading the same replies.

Thanks alot!

They gave 75% Warhammer coupons for random people about a month ago.
And I think purchases would mostly give you a coupon when making the purchase during an event.

new.steam.nyan.link/#/coupons/
It's from a steam group called Coupon dumpster, the list might be incomplete but it's the biggest group of its kind so pretty much every game with coupon discounts must be on that list
