I bought Skyrim full price.

I got Modern Warfare 3 for free. Just sort of...found...an installation of it. While plundering for loot. Arr.

Why?

Because MW3 is just a rehash, an expansion pack, for MW2. The single player campaign is barely 5 hours, the multiplayer is just the next iteration of what MW2 and Black Ops already had. It's not $60 in content.

Skyrim is hundreds of hours of content provided by the game itself (as opposed to 'content' and challenge provided by players in online matches). And Skyrim has a broad story and a well crafted world...etc. Things I want to encourage.

Yes, but if you find something fun then I don't see the problem if it's mostly just the same?

I'm assuming you play Battlefield 3 which is not much different from the previous two games as well. The same could be said for any series with more than 2-3 games. People just pick on Call of Duty because of how successful it is.

The problem is that even if you enjoy the games... it's obvious that it's set up as a subscription service rather than actual game releases. They have a new game year after year and sprinkle in DLC maps here and there to keep your wallet as light as possible.

Unless you're a hardcore fan of CoD you probably can't even tell the difference between the first game in the series and the latest one. They both look and play the same, with a few very minor tweaks here and there.

You really can't say that about the Battlefield series. They change up the engines every time, as well as do significant changes to core mechanics in the games. If anything they have strayed too far from what the previous numbered sequel was.
