Katawa Shoujo. One of the best introductory VNs, and then you can argue about which girl's route was the best.

Don't bother looking for VNs on steam. There are barely any on steam and only a small selection from that are good. Just get your VNs elsewhere if you want some good ones.

+1 there's a plethora of free VNs out there that I found to be pretty neat. Katawa Shoujo, A2, Locked-in, Juniper's Knot, don't take it seriously babe, True Remembrance, RE: Alistair and other stuffs by sakevisual, everything from Cyanide Tea. There are probably hundreds of other free VNs that's at least worth a look.
