I listed the companies on this Forbes article

Personally, I would choose Activision-Blizzard since I have played several of their games and it would be interesting to learn how they brainstorm with new ideas and develop content for their PC games.

If you could join any large gaming company to work at, which would you choose and why?

I really miss the old Sierra games...

Me too. :( Too bad the rights to the games are so scattered, else there was hope someone could just buy them all with the intention of making new ones in the old spirit.
A new Larry is coming but it probably won't be in the same spirit, reloaded wasn't great either.
The last King Quest was not great either, the only great part that made it was the voice by Christoper Lloyd.

They had very good taste as a publisher too, I spent nights playing Zeus and Emperor...
And before that, on Crash Bandicoot on my PSX... (Yes, Naughty Dog made that one, but Sierra published it)
Oh god, the hours I lost to those games...
I still have several Sierra games on hard copy, but they stay safely in their case, I'm too affraid to scratch them now...

Either Avalanche Studios or Telltale Games.
Ubisoft is of course a good option, too.

+1. Obviously the reason why so many games are so full of bugs isn't because the devs suck but because they're hard-pressured into releasing faster than reasonably feasible. I don't like doing rushed code.

In general the game development industry is not great place to work.

And indie is too much like gambling. Without the fun of getting millions of investment.

As a former QA tester, I get the idea that there are a lot of different problems contributing to this in the gaming industry, all mashed together for maximum problems. One is that the big companies rush their developers, but it's also a general lack of imagination and pride in their product. Like...indie developers often seem to really care and for a lot of the bigger companies profit is the most important thing, so they don't want to listen to the suggestions of play testers and if something is a bug, just remove the whole feature instead of putting the care to fix that.

I'm sure part of the problem is fans wanting games to be rushed, maybe? That being said I'm ok with waiting for a game for a long time if it's going to be released without being buggy as heck, perhaps I'm in the minority though.

Yeah, same, I have so many things in my backlog that I really don't care when new games get released. Plus, say, if I can't wait for TES6, I can always play TES5 again and keep busy for months with it ^^ But I agree that many fans seem to be super-hyped and impatient about upcoming releases... Maybe the marketing teams are a bit to blame for that, too, with their communication campaigns and pre-order things ;)

Absolutely!

The one that I remember vividly is Dragon Age Inquisition, it was already delayed, so I guess they didn't want to delay it again, but I feel it could definitely have used more time.

Definitely that Kraptivision, they just milk to death the same 2-3 games, and they're run by a man who said he wants to take the fun out of making video games and forced out 2 studio heads just to save money, even on the Blizzard side they've just been copy pasting other games.

Obsidian Entertainment, inXile or CD Projekt.

I'd love to work with pillars of the industry who delivered great games such as Josh Sawyer, Chris Avellone, Brian Fargo, Feargus Urquhart and David Gaider. Any company that still makes old school, high quality RPGs for the true and hardcore fans of the genre.

And there's Hideo Kojima too, he is a genius and a great visionary, I've always admired his work and games.

Trust me, you don't want to work in CD Project... Unless constant crunch weeks and mobbing is your thing.

This is becoming pretty much a norm in the industry I am afraid. Large projects costing tens of millions of dollars require intensive labor. Working extra-hours of work is a necessity to beat tight deadlines, it's something I'd expect to deal with if I was pursuing such career path, it's simply part of the job. The Japanese have it much worse, it's a public health issue there, and not limited to IT and Video Games.

Even QA gets this, expected to work crazy hours in the lead up to launch. I think it's pretty standard to the game industry, but also a lot of modern jobs, you're right!

Valve.

Mostly so I could go in and actually curate the cesspool that is Steam Direct. I would gladly work eight hour days just trying out submissions and seeing if they actually qualify as games. I've even got experience - I've played the huge majority of the games in my library now, which is at least a tenth of everything they have overall.

Guerilla Games or Ninja Theory. 2 larger dev outfits that are still willing to take some risk, buck some trends and come out on top. Here's hoping the latter doesn't get shafted by their new corporate overlords
Or THQ Nordic. Among bigger publishers, they're basically decent folk who try to do right by their customers.

From the list it'd be either BioWare or Double Fine. Other honorable mentions: 11bit Studios and Supergiant games. If I were to work in that industry I'd at least need to believe in the product being made to somehow counteract the unpleasantness of game development and those are the ones that consistently produce games whose vision coincides with mine in one way or another.(BioWare on their character/world building, Double Fine with its humor, 11bit with it's bleak outlook and Supergiant for the artistic value)

Someone already said CD Projekt (and English is my only language) so I'm gonna go with another unlisted....

CAPCOM!!!

Because I have always loved Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Resident Evil and Mega Man. Occasionally a new release in one of those franchises sucks but they always end up turning things around. Not a fan of the nickel and diming for SFV characters but the amount of free MHW content is staggering. Overall it's a great company that isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and thanks to MHW the company is worth more than it's ever been.

Love the Vs games too. I really like the earlier ones that had Ken's hurricane kick move in a diagonal direction. Infinite was a huge letdown and I'm hoping they learn some lessons with MH World. If you put tons of content into the game and don't overcharge for DLC more people will buy the game. I think a bigger roster included with the purchase of the standard edition might have helped people overlook the other problems Infinite had. Instead it's completely dead less than a year after release,
