For me it's point & click. Combining potatoes with radioactive uranium to make a key for locked clam was all the rage for me 3 or 4 years ago. Nowadays i get bored of these games way too quickly and feel very little incentive of actually figuring out anything. Recently tried Broken Age and while it's a great game in all respect i'm getting bored of it already :/ Past me is crying now.

Not only am I burned out on them, but as I get older, I don't have the time to "keep up to speed" in them, and would much rather play a game I can start/stop at my own pace. :/

Eve Online I played since 2011 * Now I play from time to time :)

Shoot 'em ups.
Also, first-person shooters, to a large degree. I loved Doom 4, but I could only play about 30 hours of it. I think Serious Sam 4 will be on by backburner list for a while as well.

Racing. I havent really played a single racing game since Need For Speed: Underground 2. Tried a few but never enjoyed them as I thought I would.

It's because there was no GOAT tier racing game since then. Genre turned to shit quickly after Underground 2 release.

I liked Racing, FPS, Fighting and GTA games when I was 10.
Also loved MMOs,Shooters and Assasin'sc Creed when I was 15-16.
Now I can't stand all of these genres, it feels so tedious and that's why I mainly play competetive games now.

Icon clean'em upsOpen world games from the school of Ubisoft design (R)(TM).

I enjoy going for walks in these games to take in the sights, but I just don't have it in me anymore to wipe the maps clean of all the little icons. It's tedious and exhausting and unfun.

Flight Simulators (civilian and military). That's pretty much what got me into PC gaming decades ago (and also lead me to get my real life pilots license and instrument rating). I slowly slid out of it and can't seem to motivate myself to get back into it even though I want to.

On the military side, one of the best was (and still is) Falcon 4. I pre-ordered it, spent months reading the manual and doing the training before I was good enough to hold my own in a campaign. I used to love that shit. I still have my binder edition, and the game is still being updated by the community by BMS. Now we have DCS, and I bought the DCS A-10C a couple of years ago, but just can't get around to learning it.

The last civilian flight sim I used was FS9. I had so many mods for it, that I skipped FSX when it came out. It's a good tool to keep proficient with instrument flying, but eventually I just stopped playing. I did pick up FSX when it came out on Steam hoping to dust off my flight sim gear and get back in the (virtual) air, but I've yet to do that either.

I guess I'm in a similar situation. I remember poring over the 300+ page manuals for Jane's Longbow 2 and 688(i) Hunter Killer back in the day and relishing in the realism and difficulty of it all, but these days I can't get myself to go in the deep in end with DCS or X-Plane. There are so many games and so little time to enjoy them all that I sadly see myself reaching for the "lower hanging fruit" for my gaming needs more often than not.

First-person shooters. I've always thought of myself as a well-rounded person in terms of skill, but holy shit I'm so bad at them now. I don't how or when, but I just plain lost whatever edge I had. Thankfully I'm still pretty good at everything else though :)

I used to love FPS, fighting, and strategy games when I was younger; however, hacking, uninvited PVP and toxic chats burned me out on gaming with random people. Nowadays I prefer to play RPG's and ARPG's solo (even in multiplayer/MMOs) and other casual genres due to lack of free time.

Heh, it's funny, I consider FPS and fighting games casual compared to RPGS. Less time-consuming by their nature and less involved in a lot of ways. Still I guess they require a different set of skills than rpgs do.

My play style has grown extremely casual over the years. And you're right... most RPG's are very time consuming. Alas, when you finally do reach end game, it's all about the endless grind for better gear and cosmetics. :P

RPG with random fight. I used to grind for hour, spining on little circles, to get the best team EVAR. But today I get annoyed by these random fight and each of them make me a bit madder each time.

Fighting - used to love street fighter, tekken, mortal kombat, soulblade... Can't really stand fighters right now. Still have to play some more SF4 that I won here.
First Person Shooter - used to play a lot of those when I was young (Doom, Duke Nukem, Serious Sam...). Modern shooters tend to bore me and it's been a while since I played and enjoyed one of them.
Real Time Strategy - there was a time when almost everything I played was a RTS. Dune 2, C&C, Warcraft, StarCraft. Don't even remember the last one I played... probably the terran campaign for SC2.

On the other hand, I'm kind of regaining my interest in adventure games after not touching one of those for years :)

I used to really like RTS and find TBS boring and slow from when I first got into gaming to a few months ago. Now I mainly like the well thought out plans and executions of TBS and find RTS to be mostly boring click fests that just go too fast for me. Only one I still play with any regularity is DoW2 and that only because I love the units I think

DontBeSilly I agree with you. Point and click really gets on my nerves, I just got sick of trying every possible combination of things that make no sense at all in order to unlock something.
I really enjoyed Grim Fandango for its creativity and thinking outside of the box but unfortunately I wasn't able to go far myself :D

I do in the end, after like 2 or more hours spending thinking about it and trying every single thing. Problem is the feeling after using walktrough. It feels like I'm cheating and just not up to the task so I just wanna quit cuz I'm bad at video games :D

Sure that's an option but for me once that line has been crossed it can not be undone and everytime I get stuck on a puzzle for 30 minutes I'll look it up. That's why I like adventures with puzzles that make sense like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis best that don't force you to mindlessy try out every possible combination or use a walkthrough.

I guess I should give that a try sometime since with most Adventures (most recently Broken Age Part 2) I get quite frustrated because they throw such far-fetched puzzles at you and even the ones where most puzzles make sense have the occasional odd one.

Did the Knot puzzle fuck you over too? I spent so much time on that one because none of the options made any sense to me -.-

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think I got relatively lucky with that one because as the knots are picked randomly I got like 2 out of 3 which could be identified by the descriptions with little bit of fantasy. I think I had 1 knot where I had to guess and ended up guessing wrong and with a new knot altogether but if I remember correctly that wasn't the puzzle that caused me the most grief.

The puzzle how to get the ceremonial master to spit up the whistle he had swallowed was frustrating for me because I had the right idea but had forgot about Shay's special ability when it comes to hugs (from Part 1).
Another one that annoyed me was the wiring puzzle and once you're inside Mog Chothra it's just one harebrained puzzle after another.
I played a little further but I stopped playing somewhere inside Mog Chothra because I found Part 2 unreasonable hard compared to N°1. Not sure if I should give the game another try (I also own it on Steam but played in on PS4 after it was free with PS+) but after in Part 1 I only had to resort to walkthrough once (for the Riddle of Yorn; probably because I'm not a native speaker and the connection between peaches and pits isn't as obvious to me), Part 2 felt as if somebody had told them Part 1 was too easy, too short and they were trying to counteract that with absurd puzzles.

I guess I'm not creative minded enough, since all the descriptions provided to me by the knot puzzle was utter nonsense. I just gave up and started using a walkthrough from that point onward because my head was getting soar from the constant head-to-desk bashing :/.

The game did suffer from being broken (snickers) into two separate parts since there is a clear divide in difficulty. I played both parts back to back and it went from "baby's first p&c" to "guess what I was thinking while high on shrooms" difficultly. I recommend going back to finish it with a walkthrough but fuck me it got really messed up at the end.

I always mute sounds from everyone and I barely read chat so as I said, communication is not a problem. Even when they're nice, I don't care, I don't like playing with nice people too. I get tired of people thoughout the day at work/university so playing video games is a runaway from them, therefore I certainly don't like them "running around" in my little peaceful world even if they're silent
