I haven't looked at this in a while, but I remember it was once possible to download old files for steam client, unpack/install them while having auto-update disabled (by having a config file steam.cfg)
I'm not sure if the links still work, maybe someone have a copy archived somewhere.

Is there anyway to downgrade the steam client to the previous version? I have no problem using the new version of the client on my PC, where I do most of my gaming. However my laptop, which I use for most of my trading, isn't powerful enough to run the steam client, which is why I was wondering if there was a way to downgrade the steam client to the previous version.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)
