^^ had inventory notifications that refused to show up when the new update came out, no idea what they were

also messages from steam support as well reporting the problems didn't show up

They still haven't fixed notifications on the mobile app for me so I don't think they'll fix it on the client side either.

Do you have always at least 1 new notification indicator even if there is nothing new or it is something different?

Permalink

Yes. And sometimes I get notifications from 2 months ago at the top. Already seen and marked. Mostly inventory stuff, cards and gifts.

Same for me. Though mostly the notification list is empty yet there is still a notification every time.

^^^ weirdest shit. mobile app will only tell me i have a notification if its 2 of them or more
if you read them one by one and keep clicking the notification tab it will send you back until you have 1 unread and it doesn't show up
you can get around this by using the back page function.

I feel like I've tried everything but I'll try opening them one by one and see if it finally shows them as read.

Something is really not okay on your side, it is and was possible since the introduction of this update in beta.

The resizing is a bug. Not sure what's causing it because it doesn't reproduce for everybody, but it worked normally during the beta.

It needs a few client restarts to work properly.
Also something I tried. When it is locked in a certain position, if you right-click on the app on the taskbar and select Move, you can move it with the arrows.
Either way, it's pretty annoying when it happens.

THE HORROR!

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but this "feature" was visually annoying and served no purpose (unless it was meant to direct people towards the "store" tab and make them spend munnies, which is pretty likely considering we're dealing with Valve here), so yeah I'm glad the "horror" is gone. Next time they redesign the UI they can try making something that isn't an eyeblight.

Nah man, Steam UX is dogshit and definitely still in need of some revitalization. This update was definitely a step forward, but they need to keep it up and continue going in same direction, not like with past updates. They always redesign just a part of UI and then have this Frankenstein of a client.

For real! They should dump the whole thing and do a clean redesign, with proper beta testing and feedback instead of just adding stuff that's the easiest to implement without making the big changes that need to be made.

New one is cool. In-game overlay is much better, it just looks better, and the screenshot manager finally shows a clear screenshot instead of the blurry shit the old UI had. So, while it still has some bugs, it's an improvement in my eyes over the previous UI. Shame they still haven't reverted to the old Steam Review sort option style. It looked much better.

People seem enamored with the changes to the screenshot interface and the overlay and font?
I don't know. I use games for gaming. I don't care about screenshots and I have a browser to look for stuff on the site. I never use the overlay so for me it's a zero sum change at best.
And still waiting for changes to the actual library management like... sub categories, going back to being able to check several categories for a game without having to do them one by one, you know... basic stuff.

So I'll go back to the old one happily until they make it impossible.

Same. I don't mind the changes I never asked for but I'd prefer if they did it without creating bugs all over the place in features I use.
Also it keeps making the app more resource-hungry for no reason at all.
It's the mobile craze. Apps are getting gigantic because they keep adding stuff you can do in a regular browser in every damn app when really they're not needed.

Thanks. After the latest update, on my system, Steam constantly stops responding and crashing. So far, using the -vgui parameter is the only way I can run Steam without issues, at least until they fix their stuff as they should have before going live, in production, with this steaming pile of bug-ridden crap.

If you have Steam launch when Windows starts, you can make it start with -vgui by adding it to the Steam registry entry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It will take effect the next time you restart Windows

friend messages DONT show up at all on notifications so i had no way of knowing people were messaging me until i changed back to the old one and had a few waiting
support message from steam dont show up on new ui
uses far more ram and its laggy in places like scrolling achievements
i cant drags it around anymore or resize
the only think i can do is full screen or minimize.
stops me from changing the size at all or moving the screen around.
not every times but like 75% of the time i use steam

  1. For the support messages you can enable the notification in settings, it's disabled by default for some reason. Messages from friends should always display notification in Friendlist window, just fyi.
  2. I didn't have any performance issues or lags, but I agree the memory usage seems rather excessive.
  3. The resizing of the window is a bug, it worked in the beta, will be fixed.

My issue was with the launch of steam it just could not load, because some steam service was not working. I got a window with several options restart the service, exit, and start without some graphic option. Restarting steam or the service had no effect.

Only way to launch steam was to select without the graphics option and I had to do this for every steam launch, I rolled back to the old UI and my issue is gone now.

What I understand its a case by case basis if you have issues or not.

Had something similar with Hogwarts legacy, I had no issue with the game, but heard about a lot of people with crashes and other issues..

Gotta agree, personally I like the new UI. Especially the in game overlay, the screenshot window. There are some features that are gone which I agree should have been fixed/reimpleneted like when using the back button you don't always go to the respective page and you don't go to the spot on the page which you were watching when you opened a new link.

I like the new notification tab/dropdown especially how descriptive it is and that I can see when my wishlisted items go on sale.

Thanks again, it works great for me.
I also had the issue that steam was unable to launch since some steam service was not working only after starting it without some graphic option I was able to get steam working again. (needed to do this with every launch)

So It is great that I can roll back to the previous version!

Using Linux.
The new client even more slower than the previous one. I dont need al the fancy graphics stuff.
The day it installed no game was starting.
Still cant click on the game properties or set categories.
The scrolling is a torture and dont know what else, I use it not much.

I found out that if you change the notification settings under notifications it won't save, if you change it under the normal Steam settings, it does save and that's how I got rid of these notifications!

But yeah, a lot of it is still broken and it sucks, like notifications from chat, I also got a notification about a gift for almost 2 months until it stopped, guess all we can do is accept and hope one day they fix their mess!
Also feels as if the new client, which I don't find any better than the old one, is also heavier on usage which sucks for people who don't have a very strong PC.
