Are other GFWL games shutting down as well? (if you have any other that is) If so than it's clearly GFWL and you should download the latest update for it. If not, then it's GTA4 and I have no clue on that one. It should work with Win8.1 afaik (runs under Win8 I heard)

It IS gfwl, batman doesn't remember my saves as well and HOME button doesn't show up when starting. Or in another works - gfwl not initiated and not working.

Lol, I didn't knew that. Thanks for telling me and I still want to try gta IV's multiplayer :D

That worked sometime ago, but no longer for me :/

Hmm.. then I don't know what's the problem, it fixed the startup thing for me and I use Windows 8 too

My problem with GFWL (on Windows 7) was, that you have to start the service "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant" manually. (Dunno if that problem can still occur on Windows 8.)
Use the Windows search field and type in "services.msc", there you can activate it.

I know that this is a VERY stupid question, but did you restart your pc each time you got GFWL? also, did you log into GFWL and check if it says if you own the game or not?

True, I just can't give up because I can't play even Batman now :(

I have no idea. But if there's one thing I know it's that GFWL sucks. Companies should stop using it and use Steam or if not atleast Orgin.

Try using XLiveLess.

This is a dll which will bypass the need for GWFL, and you won't lose any functionality ingame.
Just check whether this is a newest version.

I use that .dll for Red Faction: Guerrilla and it works great. The only problem I have is that it doesn't save my preferences when it says "saving gamer profile" so I have to set them again every time I start up the game. I'm not sure if it's the .dll or the game itself that has the problem. It does save my progress in the game just fine though, so whatever, not a big deal.

I want to play MP too, so I've already seen that but :|

Isn't the MP mainly dead? And those few who play use hacks so I doubt you'll have any fun. However the last time I played it's MP was months ago, the lack of GTA V might have made some players come back.

Idk, all of my friends are saying it's pretty fun :) So I want to give it a shot :P

they aren't hacks, everyone uses trainers... but at least some people don't use god mode. it's no different on console, in fact it's worse cause the console freezes every 10 minutes because of 10 year olds spawning stuff like tugboats in the middle of the street.

I'm with bought windows 8 and I've installed all updates, I can't figure out what causes that >.<

I just did and now it wants me to install live-id sign assistant, but I can't manage to install it too without setting it's compatibility mode to win 7 too :/

I believe your batman save is gone and irretrievable. There was news on it about gfwl being patched out and how you shouldn't update if you are still currently playing.
You should always have a firewall and anti-virus regardless of how you browse the web. There are other ways of getting infected, such as drive-bys from legitimate websites with hijacked ads.

I've cleared my DNS and caches. And I really prefer NOT using an anti-virus, because it's more about money than protecting. And it's not about Batman anymore, I would like to try that gta IV multiplayer, but no luck :/

I had the same problem, GTA IV did not launch after Social Club login.
Solution was in GFWL's new user agreement. You need to login with your account credentials to www.xbox.com and accept new agreament. The problem in GFWL client which is very outdated and do not understand what happens, you loging in, but agreement do not have acceptance, so it crushes right after launching.

I haven't accepted anything, but when I login nothing doesn't appear tho. Can you give me more accurate information? Thanks!

Here I found more accurate steps which should help:
Please go to your window's live client and start up the application (Start->All Programs->Games for Windows Live) then choose the option second from the bottom on the left, "Create New Account" (I know you already have one, trust me). put in your email for Games for Windows Live and hit enter (click login). It says email already has account, so login, and it will say: "You need to update your Privacy Agreement," and give you a link.

I know, but it's not working. It's not downloading my profile info.

Fixed, had to migrate my account for some reason and then verified cache and it's all working properly!

Just use the hacked xlive.dll that lets you run mods
also removes the need for RGSC

Hey. First of all, I know how to use Google. I did the fix before, but after reinstalling gta IV, it's no longer working or the problem is different. I spent over 15 hours of googling and applying fixes and trust me - I HATE GTA IV, IDK WHY I DO THAT!
The problem is that gta iv appears for a second then disappears just after the social club login. I think it's caused by GFWL, because when I open it, it says "There was an error retrieving your purchase history sign out and try again bla-bla-bla". I'm not sure if any of the ports required for gfwl are busy, I didn't found a working way to check on windows 8, I know only how to check that on Debian. Firewalls and security shit are disabled, I never use such a things, because I'm advanced enough to protect myself from viruses. Any tips are welcome and thanks for your time.
PS. I verified cache of the game thrice - no need to say it.
PS2. I reinstalled gfwl over 15 times with any sh*t like compatibility, run as admin and that kind of stuff.
PS3. I also tried system recovery. Didn't help.
